==Commander Michael Denton Chief of Security( Retired), Temp NRC ==
Mike sat there trying to process what Andrea had said about him being a wonderful man, but she had no designs on him. I can't speak for the rest of the ship, though, added Andrea.
Mike puffed up a little at the idea of the women on the ship possibly eyeing him, but he felt a bit confused; he was still in mourning for his wife
What Andrea said next to Jez surprised him greatly. Andrea said, On the other hand, you could use to get out and maybe have a date or two. Would it kill you to have a drink with someone? It doesn't mean you're shopping for a husband...or... never mind...the thing is, if you don't at least breathe once in a while, you're going to slowly suffocate."
Did I miss something here?
Mike was concerned that Jez had not been socializing, like a normal healthy young woman? Jez had always been a social butterfly, so to hear that she was avoiding social situations was somewhat distressing. He had lived through many of Jez’s boyfriends over the years. Mike was the one who consoled her when, at 15 years old, Jez broke up with her then boyfriend Malcom, a human she met while her parents visited Earth for a lecture series one Summer. Malcolm was cheating on her with another girl
When Andrea mentioned being a trauma surgeon, Mike found it fascinating. He had seen a few trauma surgeons in action during his time on active duty; they were true heroes in every sense of the word. Performing surgery in a Hot Landing Zone, under heavy fire, took nerves of steel.
“Wait a second, You’re fifty-two years old?" said Mike, looking at Andrea with disbelief. Mike thought Andrea was around Jez’s age.
Andrea is four years older than me?
Mike felt like he was in an alternative reality; these two women were clearly dealing with a bizarre unspoken rivalry, unresolved feud, or something. He wasn't sure what these two were carrying on about., It seemed like Andrea was pushing Jez into something that either she couldn’t or wouldn’t do.
Clearly, Andrea hasn’t run into Jez’s stubborn streak.
Mike sat there, “Just so we’re clear, we are having cake, right?”
==Lieutenant Jez Mala Acting Chief of Security ==
Jez blinked a few times; she wasn’t sure she heard Andrea correctly. Jez just assumed that Andrea was around her age, or at least she thought she was.
Perfect, I’m here with my Father and my Mother, just great.
Jez couldn’t deny that Andrea was right. Mike is a truly Amazing man; he had a great build and incredible personality.
He has such broad shoulders, and that butt, so full and well-toned, not flat like so many men his age, and his cute chubby belly. Hold on, is Andrea trying to push me into a relationship with Mike? Gross, he’s practically my father.
Jez shot Andrea a look as if to say, “I don’t want to talk about this with Mike here.”
Jez knew that a relationship with Mike would be wrong on so many levels, not just because they were practically family, but Mike was a pig-headed, overprotective nag sometimes. He never wanted to do anything new or fun. He was in many ways predictable. Same Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner, same music, same workout routine. Haircut every week whether he needed it or not. The same, the Suebian knot—an ancient Germanic style of twisting and tying hair into a high knot—was also prevalent among Nordic warriors. Every night he polished his boots. He often spent more time primping than she did. The more she thought about it, she realized that there were worse things in life than having a mate who took care of himself, who was organized and detail-oriented. Jez and Mike didn't share blood, and they say the best romantic relationships start as friends.
Jez did remember that in many cultures women often married older men, so the main reason significant age gaps existed was that men were often expected to accumulate resources and status before marriage. In contrast, women were encouraged to marry relatively young. Large age gaps occurred, but the average age difference in marriages on Earth during the Edwardian era (roughly 1901–1914) was usually 17 years; marriage, for example, was generally much closer in age than the commonly cited 17-year difference. Large age-gap marriages certainly occurred, especially among the upper classes; the average age difference between husbands and wives in Britain and the United States but that may be the exception to the rule. However, life in the 24th century was different; there was really no rich or poor, and men didn’t necessarily have to establish themselves. Which begs the question: why is Andrea flirting with Mike?
“Oh, yeah, Cake, right, right.” Stammered Jez as she took the knife from Andrea.” Would anyone like coffee?” Added Jez.
