== Talion/Velaul Quarters ==
As they took seats in the living room area, Alex gave Reyna a nod and she began, "Security is not a problem while in our quarters. There are several reasons for it, but we'll start with the fact that the independent holographic system also acts to negate 98% of all sound from leaving the room. Cindy also maintains surveillance of our quarters constantly, including monitoring all electronic device functions within range. She can ever prevent remote access of the computer terminals, if we desire. There is a field generated from dad's bedroom closet that prevents a lock for transport unless boosted by at least one intentional device, like a chip or a comm badge activation. The field is created by the device that is maintaining a unique communications link that is the equivalent of a portable micro-wormhole. It's more complicated than that, but it is an entanglement of more than one particle and provides not only a link, but encryption as well. It is non-Star Fleet, but is listed in dad's professional equipment, along with Cindy. Within these walls, you have better security than anywhere else on the ship. As part of the family, Cindy also falls under your command, which technically is higher than that of the Captain, but only as it pertains to Cindy's protocols. For example, the CO could give Cindy an order and she would certainly obey it, however, you would have the ability to override his orders with her. She will now consider you as a priority over others as well. If you ever need her assistance, so long as you have a comm badge or are anywhere on the ship, you don't need to initiate a signal, just say her name and what you need. Isn't that right Cindy?"
Cindy's voice softly came from everywhere and nowhere, [Affirmative. Beno, please let me know if you desire an unique communication device, like Alex's. He can fill you in on the details, but he tends to find them handy.]
Reyna held up a hand, "So, that's security. We're very good at keeping secrets in this family and respect your position professionally. I don't think you ever need to worry about such things inside these walls."
She let out a sigh and looked down at her hands, "Now me." Reyna didn't appear hesitant on the topic, but more as if she were bracing herself for it. "The reason I have no memories of my mom is because her and I have never met. Cindy kept a secret from my dad when she went off on the mission that got her killed. She was pregnant when she went and had not told my dad. Cindy knew, but agreed not to tell him at the time. She knew he would try to convince her not to go. Like you, she was very driven and strong willed." Reyna smiled and wiped a small tear from her cheek as she continued, "I think that we both would have really liked her. Unfortunately, she died on that mission. Cindy's programming sounds simple enough, but is complicated in her latitudes in executing it. Simply put, she is to assist our family and anticipate our needs. It is something that has been long-standing for a couple of decades now. In most cases, it means she tries to have the answers before the question is asked...any question. This often means she provides a personnelle report on someone about to walk into your office, or a profile on a person who just walked into a meeting unexpectedly. She is always listening, recording and providing information on demand, often before you demand it."
Reyna took another deep breath and let it out, "In my case, unknown to my dad, Cindy had used the medical scan of my mom while she was pregnant and using the genetic material of them both that was on file, she recreated me. I'm not a clone, but I guess you might say I was created because of my sister who never was. Cindy and the others took me with them and had not told my dad anything at the time. It was only later, when things became difficult for him and he was struggling to recover from a nearly fatal mission that I was revealed. Cindy knew that after my mom died, he had lost his internal compass. He no longer even wanted to remain in Star Fleet. He retired his commission and called Cindy and the others to come and get him. I had already been born, but had never met anyone organic yet. They told him about me and predictably, he once more felt he had a purpose. Cindy had anticipated that my dad would need me, because she knew my mom was almost certain to die on her mission. Cindy was right."
Reyna looked away and tried to continue to form the right words as she pushed forward, "Cindy did a really good job. She made me and knew how to try to replicate almost every variable possible. I was grown in an artificial womb that had a heartbeat and I heard voices and music that helped me form my initial neural pathways. I wasn't designed. I was formed as if invitro, but from the very beginning, I was not in an organic environment. That's why I was actually a kind of unofficial experiment. All brains find patterns, it's part of what they do. For the first couple of years of my life, the patterns my brain was exposed to were all synthetic. I understand computers as well or sometimes better than I understand people, I don't just learn information, I consume it, integrate it and retain it while constantly analysing it. In an effort to give me exposure to at least a simulate organic life with others, I experienced a simulated world for a brief amount of time. In organic time, it was only a few minutes, but in machine time it equated to a handful of years. My body didn't change at all, but the number of engrams and my brain chemistry registered slightly more than five years worth of experiences. So by that math, I should be roughly a mental equivalent of perhaps 12 or so, but as you might have noticed, the genetic bost I seem to have inherited from my dad has caused a ripple in that sort of speculation."
Having gotten past what she felt was the hard part, Reyna relaxed a little and continued, "According to most tests that Federation science would employ, I'm not genetically engineered. I carry no altered key components to my DNA and everything can be attributed to my family roots, as my mom's genetic material is on file. It gets odd there though,since she was originally half Ferengi and turned into a full human through a strange bit of biological science from a criminal that was trying to escape when the temporal..." Alex looked at reyna and shook his head, causing Reyna to backtrack. "Um...when they attempted to apprehend him. He was destroyed in the process, but that's not really important. What's important is that I'm actually more of my dad than my mom, from a technical point of view. I only know that because I've been shown the math and the details would likely only bore you to death. However, should all of these facts come to light, I am one hundred percent organic, yet some people would consider me a monster. Understandably, I have issues fitting in."
Reyna finally looked Beno in the eye again. She had been avoiding her direct gaze until she got to this moment. A smile returned to her face and she was struggling not to cry again and doing a pretty good job of it. "Then there is you. My dad can be very smart. I like to think of him as scary smart, but in a good way. he is also very lucky at times. The scar at his temple is from a shot a Borg fired at him that should have taken his head off. He keeps it to remind himself and I understand why. It can't be denied though, that he is sometimes very lucky, even scary lucky at times. He came back to Star Fleet for me. We ended up on this ship, of all ships. He ended up working hand in hand with you and you two became friends. Now, against all odds, you're my mom. I find you to be amazing. I admit that I'm still a little jealous of those gorgeous spots of yours, but I hope to grow up to be like you. I could break it down for you, because I know that as a scientist, you would understand it, but my odds are very high that I'm not going to grown up like a normal kid, no matter how much I try, but somehow you have a way of making me feel normal and I really love you for that. I guess I inherited some of my dad's luck as well."
Reyna had finally relaxed, having gotten it all out. There had been a brief feeling of not exactly shame, but perhaps detachment was a good way to put it. It had persisted through her description of her creation and life before meeting her father, but then quickly warmed up from there. When it was done, Beno could feel that she had returned to feeling the loving glow from her that they had shared so much of lately. Reyna had experienced loneliness and the inability to really connect until she met her dad. The synthetics could connect with each other, but it was harder with an organic. Beno felt these things more deeply than words had said, but the message was there all the same. Maybe some of it was because Betazoids depended so much on the telepathic and empathic elements of themselves for their connections. Whatever it was, one thing was for certain, Reyna loved Beno and felt the need to share her secrets with her as a sort of final step for their relationship. the kid was putting it all on the line, even the parts that weren't so pretty.
At last, Reyna sat up straight and asked, "So, any questions?"
