AT/D04 - Officer's Lounge
#10
Hallowette listened attentively as Ju spoke, smiling at the obvious affection she held for her family and home.

"Korea sounds wonderful." The mention of nieces and nephews drew an immediate flicker of recognition from her. Family had a way of grounding a person, reminding them who they were when life became challenging or complicated. "I'm really glad you got that time with them, Ju." she said warmly. "And I'm glad you're feeling more like yourself again." she added, again a moment of the familiarity passing between them. Hally had thought Starfleet would be the answer to all of her problems - that becoming an officer and following her dreams would fulfill all of the yearning for purpose she had searched for, even as a child.

The reality had been somewhat less concrete than she had imagined.

In any case, she didn't press for details. Whatever had happened before shore leave was Ju's story to tell or not tell. Still, there was something reassuring about hearing someone say they had found their footing again. When Ju's attention shifted back toward her, asking if she had someone special, a faint blush immediately appeared across Hally's cheeks.

"Oh." A soft laugh escaped her as her fair skin flushed red, "Straight to the difficult questions, I see." She took a sip of her beneer juice, buying herself a moment to think. "Uhm, No. Nobody special at the moment." There was no disappointment in the answer, only the slightest trace of wistfulness. "I've dated before. A few serious relationships here and there. A few not so serious. I was seeing someone at the Academy when we graduated - we tried for a bit, but ultimately we decided it would be too difficult to maintain long distance." She looked up, her teal eyes reflecting the soft light of the lounge as her smile turned slightly self-deprecating. . "It turns out that being stationed on opposite sides of the quadrant for months at a time can complicate things."

The pilot laughed softly. "She is special...and she'll always be special to me - but we both decided that we had fought too hard for a life in Starfleet to force something that might jeopardize our dreams." She smiled quietly, sweetly, and nodded, "So no. No mysterious sweetheart waiting for me somewhere."

Then she glanced toward Ardanna, her smile turning more warm - less heavy,  "As for Ollie, I think that's a question better directed at the woman who just made things official." She bit her lip mischievously, "Ollie is quite the personality from the little I know him, so I'll let the expert regale us a bit more on him."
