"I seen the Commander leave a little while ago, Captain Brooks could be around. However if you really want to, Lieutenant Young over there," Lieutenant Coppola told him, motioning to two attractive women in conversation a short distance away. "Word is both Young and Velaul were roommates in the Academy, they have also served together pretty much their entire career," Coppola added.
Ethan nodded, making a quick mental note to himself. He recognized the Executive Officer's name, of course. If she knew this Lieutenant Young--whoever she was--from the Academy, then she would've been a senior cadet at the time. Small galaxy, Ethan thought. Coincidences aside though, he had a feeling that getting bogged down in officers' gossip on his very first day wouldn't make for a good first impression.
"Let me help you out here from what I have been able to put together," Cologero continued. "Times like this are sacred to Commander Velaul, for the time we are here all are equal Ten Forward for the most part also applies. We can get more into the layout later, right now Carley is there if you want to talk to her."
Ethan nodded again. "That's all right, sir. Don't mix business and pleasure, right? I can always get acquainted once I'm on duty." He set his glass down and smiled to himself. "Anyway, I should probably get to know the rest of the mids first before I go mixing it up with everyone else."
That was probably the smartest call he could make at the moment. While there wasn't anything wrong with rubbing elbows with more seasoned deck officers, it was usually wise to have some kind of working relationship beforehand. Satisfied with his decision, Ethan stood and gave Cologero a firm handshake. "I do appreciate the courtesy, sir. And congratulations again on your promotion. I hope to see you on the bridge soon." He then turned to Lieutenant K'Vada and made a small bow. "It was very nice to meet you as well, ma'am. Looking forward to serving with you."
== Tag Lt. [JG] Coppola and Lt. K'Vada. (I'll likely be moving on to my quarters or Sickbay soon, but I'll be open to responses if the event is still going.) ==
