Amila stood close enough to Pedro and A'kilees to keep an eye on their work, and was situated so that she could at least try to get between them and their alien guest if he should try to come their way. She knew that the higher gravity section of the holodeck had been made for their comfort, but Amila thought it more likely that if they were to come into their own gravity they could maneuver easily - like Vulcans, or maybe even more accurately according to Gath's assessment of their physical prowess, the Gorn - taking no time at all to adjust, and using the lower gravity to their benefit. She was aware she couldn't do much, but she felt protective of the younger officers, and if she could buy time for them to continue trying to communicate friendly intentions, or for Gath to intervene, then she would do what she could.
Evie had reminded them all to stay calm. She knew that she was talking primarily to the junior officers, but Amila repeated the sentiments back to herself as well, fighting to keep her heart rate steady and her breathing controlled. While her eyes were watching everything, she knew this person likely had senses to pick up up on every tick, every anxious move that any of them made, and it was important for them to to exude as much calmness as they could muster as Pedro played what they hoped was a signal that they meant to be friends. The chord that was playing on repeat helped her stay calm and relaxed, and she hoped it worked for the others as well.
Amila recognized the notes, she had once enjoyed performing and was particularly fond of musicals. The chord progression was often used in songs from many Earth musicals, the beginning of a promising, optimistic scene, one that was meant to give the audience hope, but it was incomplete. As she hummed along in her head, her mind drifted only briefly to a few examples where composers had used the progression only to turn it into something dark and tragic later. Washing those thoughts away quickly, she went back to the happier songs, singing them to herself in her mind, trying to somehow send that positive energy to Ameen, and to who she hoped would be their new friend.
