== Adheya and Ejid ==

Nurse Adhya helped the Security officer up, making sure that his upper torso moved as little as possible. "This way," she said as she guided him to the surgical bay. He hissed once in pain as they turned and she made an apologetic comment. "Sorry, I'll get you some pain medication as soon as you're settled."

"It's OK," Ejid responded. "I work for Chief Calleja. I'm used to pain." He grimaced as he realized the lameness of his joke, but it had been all he could come up with on the spot. "But actually it's not my first broken bone, and it won't be my last. Kind of goes with being a Security officer."

The nurse gave a dry chuckle. Patients often responded with jokes, she was used to it and tried to at least give them a bit of a laugh. It helped reassure them. As the two entered the surgical bay she helped him onto the surgical biobed. "Don't lay down yet. Computer, activate Surgical Biobed One. Activate sterilizing field." There was a brief shimmer as the force field buzzed on, followed by a glow as an emitter destroyed the microorganisms in the small bay.

An orderly brought in a wheeled cart with surgical tools as Adhya stepped over to a cabinet and took out a laser cutter. She carefully sliced the upper uniform off of Ejid without leaving the slightest mark on his skin. She handed the sliced-up uniform to the orderly to be recycled by the replicators.

"All right, you can lie back. Carefully." She guided him down, making sure that he kept his shoulders as still as possible. "I'll be back in a minute. If you need anything please ask the orderly. No food or water, though." He nodded in response and regretted it.

The whole procedure was something she could practically do in her sleep. She hadn't been long out of the Academy but they drilled it into medics. Adhya changed into scrubs and scrubbed up. While she was changing she had the computer pull up Ejid's records and search for any allergies or other information that might be of note. The Security officer didn't have any serious problems. A slight cobalt deficiency that was treated with daily medication, nothing important. With that she stepped back in.

"All right. I'm going to give you an analgesic. This is Terakine. It will completely numb the area. The doctor will make a further determination once he steps in. He might decide to sedate you, though that's unlikely for this sort of procedure." she waited for Ejid's affirmation and applied the hypospray carefully to the area, then counted down mentally from ten.

"Woah," Ejid said. "That's so much better."

That got a smile out of the nurse. "Sure, but the bone is still broken. You just can't feel it." She cleaned the clavicle area with a sanitizer, not strictly necessary but she preferred to take no chances. Technology wasn't always the best answer.

One last task, important. Adhya examined each device and tool on the cart, making sure they were functional. Commander Mayfair was a stickler for equipment inspections and was even less trusting of modern gadgetry than she was. Verify everything was something she trained into her staff. Osteogenic stimulator, regenerators, a case full of pins that were designed to either dissolve in a month or two or (when required) be literally beamed out of a patient's body when they were no longer necessary. Medical tricorders, not strictly necessary since the biobed was superior but still occasional useful for spot checks. Laser scalpels, old-fashioned metal scalpels (for those on the staff like Dr. Sonaalk who preferred them), and the usual assortment of other bandages, sutures, and tools. The idea was to have anything the doctor needed available instantly. Since the nurse had no idea of the young Andorian doctor's style in the operating room it was best to be prepared for anything.

She'd assisted Sydesh, Sonaalk, and Giddrin on numerous occasions. They all had wildly different ways of working. Sydesh was a whirlwind, flying by the seat of her pants but always in control. She controlled her team during operations like a symphony conductor. Sonaalk, the Vulcan cardiologist, was as logical and procedural as might be expected, but he sometimes seemed almost supernaturally aware of everything that was going on. Giddrin, the Saurian neurologist, was incredibly detail oriented and expected her staff to anticipate her needs. But Th’etellis was new. How would he work?

Everything was set. She tapped her combadge. "Adhya to Dr. Th’etellis. The patient is prepped for surgery."
