Lucy settled into a seat at the table. It felt like a clean slate. She needed to be just enough of herself without being too much. Ju had mentioned a pet rabbit, but hadn’t got to mention its name. There was talk of cooking. She felt herself getting lost when conversations diverged. Hally asked about shoreleave. Lucy also included things she liked to do.
“Grassmere was a nice place. Quite relaxing. Definitely a place for poets and landscape painters. Pastoral and nice. There were good walks. I kinda kept to myself. Found some good rock samples. Some sedimentary and igneous.
“Do like a good walk. Beach, forest or mountain. The Artemis has a good gym, though I prefer the machines over the free weights. Do enjoy using Stellar Cartography for casual study. It’s been a while since I did any cooking, but I’m pretty good at slicing and chopping.
“Did some cooking at home and tried to keep up with it while I was at the Academy. Would love to learn some new recipes.”
Nearly setting a coffee machine on fire seemed like an odd accomplishment. Lucy hoped Mara had been making a joke at Ardanna’s expense. Replicators did make things easier, but she felt her mom had been right about the value of a home cooked meal. Long as you had the ingredients and were ready to put in the time.
She was curious about Ju’s rabbit. One of her classmates had owned a brown lop eared rabbit and Lucy remembered how much he had enjoyed dandelion leaves. Camaraderie and cohesion was important in a crew, Lucy hoped she’d do okay.
