AT/D04 - Officer's Lounge
#24
Ju was happy, she realized. There was just something special about sitting around a table full of women who all got along. So far, there was no drama, no back talking, no cattiness. Everyone genuinely seemed to want what was best for everyone and wanted to make friends. This was great for someone like Ju. Of course, she had friends, but adding more would be nice. She had spent the last two missions often hiding from social interaction just because of the stigma that followed her since Damian’s arrest. Now, it wasn’t so much the hubbub around the arrest so much as it was ‘have you heard from him?’ or commentary on how sad it was that she had been bamboozled into a romantic relationship with a superior and now had nothing to show for it.

She was eternally grateful that no one had brought it up tonight and she didn’t have to feel like Damian’s ex, or Damian’s girlfriend, or ‘that girl who was dating the first officer’. She was just Ju. Instead, they all wanted to learn how to cook or at least how to expand into Korean food which made Ju’s Asian soul quite happy. Ju couldn’t help but laugh, “Okay, it’s a date then! We can all have a girls night soon and we can cook some Korean food together. I’ll even put on some K-pop or a K-drama for added effects. Though warning, both are highly addictive!”

Before they could move onto another topic, her favorite person in the universe showed up in the form of the Chief of Security. Who said hi, right before a squeal elicited out of Ju’s lungs. Ju shot out of her chair and closed the small distance between her and her best friend enveloping the chief in a hug. Mara had been there for her when things went South. When some of the male officers on the ship had eyes on Damian’s poor abandoned girl, and when Ju was going through a dark emotional state. She had kept Ju filled with candy, made sure that she didn’t drink herself into oblivion, or if she did, guided her back to her Quarters to sleep it off. Mara had gotten Ju through the worst of the emotional backwash and the two had cemented an unlikely friendship. Ju’s personality was counter to Mara’s more serious nature, but the two best friends seemed to jive well.

“I missed you!” Ju said with a bright smile on her face as she pulled out of the hug practically glowing. “Come sit!” Ju reached over and grabbed a chair from a nearby table and scooted her own chair over to make room for Mara to sit next to her. When Mara sat down she commented about not being a great cook and feeling that replicators did the better job.

“I don’t know about that, it’s fun to cook. I do appreciate replicators after a long day though,” Ju admitted. “The Korean options in the replicator are actually pretty spot on.”

“I wonder where we’re going on this mission,” Ju said wistfully. “I kind of hope we get to go planetside, I think it would be nice to see something new. Maybe, a lack of monsters, would also be nice.” Ju laughed and took another sip of her drink.
