She did a quick sweep with a medical scanner, then set it down and manually verified his reflexes and gave him a good once over, testing his basic grip strength and all of the standard occupational physical requirements for when initially assigned to a ship.
When she was finished, she leaned back against where the console was and crossed her arms, "Well, you look to be in fine physical shape. I just have a simple question for you. How do you feel. Not are you in any pain, but How do you actually feel, both physically and mentally? It's normal to have the new guy jitters, but I need to know that your head is in the right space. Take a deep breath and don't think about it too hard. Everyone prepares you for the tasks of doing your job, but actually going out into the deep black can be a scary thing for some people. We never know what we're going to encounter and you need to be ready for anything, because there are going to be people standing right next to you that are going to need to depend on everyone else around them. It's my job to make sure you're ready for that. Well, at least as ready as anyone can be."
