Ris caught Ens Riley's expression towards him, and the slight nod that accompanied it.
I don't know her, personally, but, among the humans I spent time amongst at the Academy, that was usually a sign of approval. She seems like a good person to get to know, given she's still relatively junior here, as well.
His antennae tips dipped ever so slightly, a sign of very minor relief.
The XO's voice cut through the moment like a laser scalpel, though, and with what Ris's antennae sensed may have been some irritation with him, specifically, though he didn't know why.
"I would recommend against a probe, Captain", Commander Jensen said. "Our objective is to stay hidden for the time being. Sending a probe will jeopardize that. Not only from the launch itself - though that too - but also from the probe sending its telemetry back. Both are trackable."
You can tight beam a telemetry signal, he thought to himself, and was on the verge of verbalizing that thought - tactfully, of course - when he saw Captain Braggins' slight head shake indicating negative. He'd also picked up on a change in the other bridge personnel's demeanor when the lead Cardassian vessel was identified - the Os'rusa. He had already input a request on the vessel from the Yeager's databanks when the Captain addressed him directly.
"T'Varen and Qab... What do you prefer to be called? What can we do to keep those ships in this system while not hampering our own ability to depart?"
"If it's a formal setting, Qab'ataar, if time is more of the essence, or an air of informality is appropriate, then Qab is suitable, thank you."
I really do sound like a Vulcan a times.
"Given our supply of Class I probes aboard, I can look into the feasibility of utilizing them as very short-lived warp field disruption devices. We could deploy them in a passive mode, awaiting a signal from us." He resisted the urge to glance in the direction of the XO, though his eyelids slightly narrowed around his jade green eyes. "The goal would be for them to emit an energy burst sufficient to disturb warp field generation within a very close proximity to themselves for perhaps a few seconds."
