[You security folks are nosy.] The Chief Science Officer replied verbally. Art could hear the grin in his voice, and even if she hadn’t been able to discern that emotion, it was stil typical officer banter. In ‘silent’ response, she blew air out of her nose in what could pass for a slight guffaw if one knew how to read Klingon body language.
Telemetry came in from the probe: the starbase, a handful of escort ships, and… the personal escort vessel of the UFoP’s President. Art immediately felt her eyes involuntarily widen, and before she could even finish the full thought, she had sent a notification up to Braggins’ personal console as an FYI. Art knew that Braggins would put on an air of “who cares”, but the fact of the matter was that it did change how they acted during this mission.
Questions began peppering the Security Chief’s mind, and her fingers flew as she wrote them down before she could forget any of them. Why is the President here? Was this part of their public schedule? Did the Romulans attack the Starbase and the refugees because they knew the President would be here? Did the President change their schedule to stop here? And why? How long had their ship been docked? Hadn’t they been given a list of who was at the Base? Why hadn’t they been told the President was here? Or was scheduled to be here? Or had Braggins known this information and kept it from them? Who else was with the President? Had the President ever been to this Starbase before?
And that last question brought Art back around to “Why are they here?” Feeling a bit on edge now, she halted her typing, looking around the room wildly before focusing her attentions back to the screens. She doubted Braggins would answer her. She’d give her four minutes before sending the message to Wright and having her play courier.
A notification.
Direct from the Bridge’s passive sensors, a huge energy surge burst out from the back of the system. The minutes were agonizing as Art was forced to wait for the sensors to ‘cool down’ as it were, and formulate a picture of what it interpreted the data to be. She had now gone from “on edge” to “fidgety.” And no one liked an anxious Klingon.
Battleships.
They didn’t have much more information than that, other than they were Cruisers, but that was all Artie really needed to know. “Battlestations,” she said, her voice more of a warning tone than a command. Immediately she was sending a message to her people on the Bridge to get her more information, even though she knew that in that moment, there was none. As she hit ‘sent’ on her request, the sensors showed her more information than perhaps she wanted to know. There was one thing the sensors were sure about, and that was that the Os'rusa was leading the group.
Damn it.
She wasn’t sure how it was possible, but she did trust the ship to know its enemies. The question of the President and their intentions was now for the moment moot, and she didn’t care what Braggins knew and what she was hiding. She queried the probe to see if it could tell her anything regarding distance and speed. And numbers. Her fingers itched to know more, but she knew that was crossing the line. Passive sensors. Passive.
Art hated being passive.

1. Are the escort ships at the edge of the system Federation-branded?
2. Did the Romulan ships come in at the same area as the above-mentioned escort ships?
3. Didn’t we get a roster of who was at the base? If not, could we get that please?
4. How many Romulan ships are there, including the one we recognize?
5. Can the probe provide the distance from the Romulans to the Yearger and/or the Starbase?
6. How fast are the Romulan ships moving?
7. What direction are they headed?
