Terran geology was a constant surprise to Lucy. Between what happened when elements formed, the formation of crystals and the placing of metal deposits there was almost too much to take in. Lucy had her favourites among the more inert materials. She knew she’d have to be careful to keep her tricorder hand. Some minerals weren’t so safe for collection.

“The Lake District has a good range of geological influences. I’d found tuff which solidified volcanic ash with small rocks through it. Andesite which is basalt and  sometimes containing multiple deposits of quartz depending on its formation. Also samples of flint and cloudy quartz.

“Always have to remember how much I can carry and try not to overload myself. Most of my collection at home is probably decorating my mom’s rockery. Had a largish piece of sea washed quartz. So smooth, but the way it sparkled when you washed it. Couldn’t tell if it had gold or iron in it.

“I find geology fascinating. Between crystalline composition or atomic structure. When something piques my curiosity I lose myself in study. The feel of a sample between my fingers and that sense of density.”

Ju had been pondering about the next mission. A lack of monsters would be good. Lucy was curious about real monsters. She would be happy enough to do without the metaphorical sort. She wanted to be ready for whatever direction they ended up heading next. How a mission started often bore no resemblance to how it ended.

“An absence of monsters would be good. Never really know what’s on the books for the next one.  It’d be nice not to have to dwell on maybes.”

Lucy would definitely be up for cooking. A new cuisine and maybe some karaoke.  She found it tricky to get her rice right, but she was pretty handy with the slicing and dicing. Mara’s visit to Bandar hadn’t been what she’d hoped, which was sad. Change was something that didn’t always come easily. Earth had its fair share of disruption even after first contact.

Lucy remembered her burger before it got cold. Pineapple was one of those additions to savory cuisine that often got questioned. It was an acquired taste that she appreciated. The mixture of the sweetness of the fruit with the flavour of the burger itself was nice.
