Gath had returned the nod of the Prime and was glad to see that there had been no altercations during the mission. We was very happy to have been over cautious if it resulted in securing the safety of his crew. Now, at long last, he could finally breathe easier.
Then, unexpectedly, Lt O'Fee commented that it had been nice working with him and wanted him to come by her office in a few minutes for a small talk. He politely gave a nod and replied, "I look forward to it."
Inwardly, he was struggling to maintain his stoic businesslike appearance. He wasn't sure what it was that she wanted to talk with him about. The doctor was a very interesting woman and he sometimes wasn't sure when she might shift from business to personal topics in a conversation. Right at the moment, he had no idea which one this talk would be about and he was a little surprised that his pulse picked up by a few beats for just a few seconds before he convinced himself that he shouldn't anticipate a simple conversation. The irony was that it then made him try to think of why he needed to remind himself of that in the first place.
He pushed it from his mind and dealt with releasing his security detail from Sickbay and allowed them to return to their normal duties. He then pulled a PADD from a thigh pocket and began working on notifying the others of his department of the change in the situation and rescheduling people for the next day or two so that everyone got rest and returned to normal duties within the next 48 hours. He also wrote an After Action Report for the CO and FO to review at their convenience. He preferred writing such things while it was all still fresh in his mind.
Once he was finished, he checked to make sure that he was correct in how many minutes had passed. Giving his uniform a tug to smooth out any wrinkles, he then proceeded to the CMO's office to have that small talk with the good doctor.
