Ejid started to nod, then realized what a bad idea it was and stopped before anything bad happened. "Thanks," he said nervously. The doctor's tone evidently had him worried.
Adhya thought for a moment. She was concerned, but was enough of a pro to understand that things often went wrong. She spoke quietly after giving it a bit of thought. "I could clamp the artery. Bolians have a secondary that can take over briefly, though with reduced flow. He won't suffer brain damage for a few minutes with the minimal circulation. That should give you time to get in there with a suture followed by regeneration." She paused again. "Recommend we sedate."
His Academy knowledge and training gave Tes an edge here over civilian doctors. Starfleet medics were trained to do 'meatball surgery,' fixing problems on the fly and ranking them in order of seriousness. It seemed like a plan, but relied on Tes getting the fragment out quickly and cleanly. If he failed there would be a gusher and a risk of further damage, possibly severe enough that he wouldn't be able to prevent oxygen starvation. Once the bone shard had been removed he could seal up the artery and the nurse could remove the clamp. Once the crisis was averted they could concentrate on the original task, repairing the other damage the poor Bolian had suffered.
Adhya waited for the Andorian doctor's response. He would have to make the call.
