Chief Medical Officers Log
Doctor O'Fee recording.
This is one of those times when I am conflicted between being a Doctor and and an Officer, my Officer training wouldn't want anything to do with that mission; while the Doctor training celebrates the fact we did. On first glance these people are ancient with obsolete technology, looking closer they are in some areas behind while ahead of us in many others.
The data that we collected medically will keep Star Fleet busy for years to come, the stasis pods themselves will keep them busy. Combined with their medicine we would be able to hold stasis for an indefinite amount of time, it would still require some kind of treatment before it started in order to survive.
The Alpha Prime himself seemed to be a man of few words that commands a large amount of respect, while giving the same in return. He is in a position I would never want to be in, the weight of everything would be too much for most people to bear. If this doesn't work an entire civilization would be lost, now that they ran into us the chances of success will be higher. They have everything they need to start their way of life again, for that I wish them all the success in the world.
I have a feeling that this isn't going to be the last time we run across these people, from what I estimate we should see them again in under fifteen years. When we do meet again we have the advantage of previous experience, and their language is already in our system. As the Prime said our assistance was noted to be very helpful, even if he didn't word it exactly like this. His experience with our Captain has made it easier for them to accept us as friendly, it would make the next persons job easier. As a Doctor I have never seen or studied something like this before, nor will I ever have the opportunity to see anything else like it. I really did owe the situation my fullest attention to detail filing it in a way that was nothing less than meticulous, any other Doctor would be able to find any information they need quickly.
As for our Officers involved Ameen had a hard enough task being the first voice they heard of the Federation, this was my first situation like this so I really have nothing to compare it too. First Contact situations by definition are tricky, our Captain made it look easy. Our Chief Security Officer from what I can tell shares a belief that I do, hope for the best while preparing for the worst. In other words we had all these layers of Security in place, we just didn't need to employ them nor did it appear like he was itching to use them. Our Science team being lead by Ra'an did a professional job, I can see now why she is well respected amongst the crew. I have only known her a limited amount of time but from what I can tell she inspires the people around her to expand on their abilities, I wouldn't be surprised to see her in the big chair one day. Engineering was a critical roll in this whole thing too, if they didn't do their usual standard of excellence this First Contact wouldn't have a chance.
In close to this recording this is the first time where my training as a Doctor and as an Officer were in conflict, this isn't going to be the last time its going to happen. My Medical training will always supersede my Officer training, fortunately the training is remarkably similar.
