Talion had reported that all civilians were evacuated and they were clear for launch. It had gone smoothly and there had barely been any delay at all.
Beno got a message from Reyna. She knew she couldn't bother her with a voice message at a time like this, but did send a text message to her:
[Mom, Jason and I are fine. We'll be in a safe place and I'll take good care of him. You and dad focus on what you need to do and come back to us. Thank you so much for everything. We love you. Reyna.]
Beno briefly questioned how Reyna was able to get a direct message to her on her official system, but then remembered the family she was part of now.
Alex was at his console, reviewing the latest intelligence data on the Cardassian ships. There were some cross references to which ships were suspected to be in the fleet they were going to encounter. For the first time in a long while, he was nervous as they headed toward what was very likely to be a shooting match. He was glad the kids were safe, but he couldn't help but worry about Beno now. In his head, he knew that he shouldn't think differently about her, but his heart still never forgave him for letting Kristina go on her last mission. He knew then and he still let her go. It was a foolish thing to beat himself up over, but it was a flaw he lived with. He was drawn to women who were strong and professional. Beno was that and then some. There was no turning away from this and he knew that the best thing he could do to keep them both alive was to contribute in every way possible to give the crew good information to work with.
