The issue with unstable slipstream corridors was that they were, by nature, unstable. The Yeager risked turning itself into space confetti even attempting such a thing.
Trying to drag a ship into a stable corridor, on the other hand, would have catastrophic results for any ship lacking the correct sensor/deflector combination. The risk to the Yeager would remain high, but not suicidally so.
The issue then became how to do it; the slipstream wasn't just something you could switch on and off again. It required careful calibration, which would require the Yeager to be close enough to her target, and for long enough to calibrate the system.
That was the suicidal part.
