"From a science point of view, there's the subspace distortion on the other side of the system, that's approximately eight light-hours away from our current position,” Aeryn replied. “Although its threat potential against us is currently unknown, as it'll take roughly twelve hours before we get any detailed information, maybe less if we move further into the system."
“OK, so unspecified anomaly with unspecified potential, an’ a 12 hour wait to find out any more. Got it,” Mara summarised. “There’s no more questions I can ask really. Guess we wait an’ see.”
"From Tactical, I'm most interested in the ring systems and the moons around Three and Five," Hallowette offered, bringing the relevant contacts onto her display. "There are enough bodies and particulate matter to complicate long-range sensors, especially from our current vector. Nothing we've received suggests anyone is there, but if someone didn't want to be noticed, those would give them considerably more options than open space."
She glanced toward Mara with the smallest smile. "So...yeah, your concerns are not presently supported, Commander, buuuut," she winked, "They aren't entirely unreasonable, either.”
“Hey, even I used the word paranoid,” Calleja replied with a good-natured grin. “Have we run a scan of the wider system?” She turned in her chair. “Lieutenant Harriman, is that somethin’ you can help wi’ please? Any evidence of engine trails in general, particularly around the 3rd an’ 5th planets in th’ system?”
Any further questions were brought to a halt by the next report from Maxas-Darl.
"Sir, We're receiving a transmission. Audio only. I'm putting it through,” she said, addressing Sovar.
“Put a trace on it,” Mara replied. “Can we tell where it’s comin’ from, an’ any detail on who’s sendin’ it? Recognisable frequencies maybe?”
