ZE/D01 - Bridge
#45
On the main tactical plot, the bright golden primary beacon of the USS Inaieu suddenly flared white-hot with an unmistakable energy spike, and then abruptly vanished into the black.

A heavy, suffocating silence gripped the Zephyr's dimmed bridge. On the passive telemetry feeds, the signature was unmistakable: catastrophic antimatter containment breach. A Sovereign-class Explorer, erased in less than a minute.

Morad’s jaw tightened until the muscle twitched, his hands gripping the armrests of the center chair.

Admiral zh'Ollan... thrown away against that monster's nose in thirty seconds, Morad thought, cold fire burning behind his eyes. A frontal charge against a Hutet is suicide. But that explosion didn't happen in a vacuum; it took a massive bite out of that dreadnought's forward envelope...

He glanced over his shoulder toward the communications station. "Comms, encode a priority tactical update and tight-beam it directly to our communications buoy via the laser link. Inform Star Fleet Sector Command that the Inaieu has suffered a catastrophic antimatter breach and is lost. Report that the Zephyr, Aquila, and Yeager are actively engaging the Cardassian invasion battlegroup, and reiterate our request for immediate fleet reinforcements."

Turning back toward the command well, his voice cut through the room with quiet, razor-sharp authority.

"Steady, everyone. Eyes on your boards," Ameen commanded, grounding his crew before shock could take hold. "The Inaieu is gone, but her loss just handed us the opening we need. Look at the telemetry."

He stood up, stepping down into the command well toward the conn and tactical.

"The shockwave from that antimatter breach overloaded the Dreadnought's forward shield generators and forced power shunts across its primary grid," Morad pointed out, indicating the flickering displacement field on the display. "She's veering off course to cycle secondary emitters, and the three Keldons are breaking formation to screen her from the Aquila."

He pivoted directly to Lieutenant Powl at tactical.

"Change of plans on the ordnance, Lieutenant Powl. Load those maximum-yield Quantum Torpedoes into all three burst-fire launchers. We are not holding back. When a ship that size takes a direct antimatter detonation at point-blank range, those shield emitters will have micro-fractures. We hit that weakened arc with everything we have before those regenerative systems can seal the breach."

Turning forward, his eyes locked onto Lieutenant Krandall at the helm.

"Lieutenant Krandall, maintain our ballistic dead-drift along our masked vector until we align directly with that compromised shield arc. The second we hit our firing solution, bring impulse online, blow our cover with a full three-tube quantum spread, and immediately roll us into your micro-jump evasive maneuvers before the Keldons can pivot their disruptor banks."

Morad leaned toward the forward plot, tapping the icon of Starbase 214.

"Pay close attention to where the Cardassians are positioned; they've deliberately kept their heavy battlegroup beyond the Starbase's defensive perimeter. They want to avoid those station-grade phaser arrays and heavy torpedo batteries at all costs. When we strike, angle your attack runs and use our pressure to push and herd them closer into the station's firing envelope. If we can draw that Dreadnought or the Keldons within range of 214's grid, the station can help us crack their armor."

Morad glanced back toward the science station, catching Amila's eye, then Cortez and Keti. "Lieutenant Ra'an, keep passive sensors locked onto the Hutet's shield oscillation frequencies. Feed the exact weak point coordinates directly into Powl’s targeting queue. Keti, Cortez; stand by on those Bajoran decoy probes. The instant our warheads detonate, launch the decoys on divergent vectors to scramble Cardassian fire control and give us breathing room."

He glanced back over toward communications. "The second we break our silent run and light the fires, open encrypted battle channels directly with the Aquila and the Yeager. I want real-time tactical integration with 214, Captain Brooks and Captain Braggins. Transmit our intended attack vectors, target prioritization, and our plan to attempt to draw the battlegroup toward Starbase 214's weapon range. We need all of us pulling on the same rope if we're going to survive this."

Morad settled back into the command chair, his focus absolute.

"Stand by for combat engagement. Let's make sure the Inaieu didn't fall in vain."

== GM Input: As the Zephyr drifts into attack position, does Starfleet Sector Command acknowledge the loss of the Inaieu via the buoy link and that we have engaged the invaders?  What is the status of the Hutet's damaged forward arc before and after our hit?  ==
