Sebastian stared at the tactical display for a moment longer than he should have.
The golden beacon that had represented the Inaieu was simply... gone.
He swallowed hard, forcing his attention back to his station. There was no time to dwell on it. Admiral zh'Ollan and the Inaieu had just paid an enormous price, but Morad was right about one thing. Their sacrifice had changed the tactical situation.
Sebastian brought up the latest passive sensor data and began comparing the readings from before and after the explosion.
"Lieutenant Ra'an, I'm seeing the same displacement you're seeing. The forward shield grid is still trying to compensate, but there's a significant power imbalance across the Dreadnought's forward arc."
His fingers moved rapidly across the controls.
"And the Keldons breaking formation is making it worse. They're screening the damaged section, but that means they're concentrating their defensive coverage in one area."
Sebastian paused as another thought occurred to him.
"Captain, if we're trying to herd them toward Starbase 214, we might be able to use the decoy probes for more than just confusing their fire control."
He brought up several projected vectors.
"If Keti and I stagger their deployment instead of launching them simultaneously, we could make the Cardassians think we're attempting multiple attack runs from different directions. That might encourage them to shift their formation again."
He looked toward Morad.
"If we time that with the Aquila and Yeager attacks, we might be able to make the battlegroup maneuver where we want them without them realizing we're doing it."
Sebastian glanced once more at the tactical plot, then back to his instruments.
"I'll coordinate the probe vectors with Lieutenant Ra'an's targeting data and make sure the decoys don't interfere with the firing solutions."
There was a brief silence before Sebastian added, more quietly:
"The Inaieu gave us an opening. We should make it count."
Then he returned his full attention to the science station, pushing the shock of what he had just witnessed aside and concentrating on the task in front of him.
