When Ens Baldwin had asked where he wanted her, Gath glanced at a console and said, "Monitor the damage control teams. They're going to know who needs help evacuating areas of the ship and if we get damage, that means that area of shields have been compromised, meaning there could theoretically be intruders. If the shields are still intact, worry about assisting the crew in staying alive. As soon as the first shots are fired, all bets are off, so be ready to improvise."
The Captain shifted tactics only slightly, but it was an important change of plans. Gath braced himself for the moment that was swiftly approaching. He mouthed a silent prayer as they watched the distance counting down.
== NPC Lt Tom Krandall, Tactical Officer ==
Lt Krandall was prepared to shift jump points. When the CO directed him to drop in behind the ship coming in on the Yeager, he grinned and tapped that preset and adjusted only a tiny bit so they wound drop in right on the tail of those ships. If they were smart, they would break formation and that's when he would follow the odd man out or the one easiest for them to team up with the Yeager on.
He had not been overly excited about diving in and not sure if he could get a second jump out of this old girl. A single jump "Picard Maneuver" to get the drop on some bad guys, that was much more of an optimistic choice. It was still going to be a hostile work environment, but it was better to be on the outside of the wagon wheel than the target on the inside. he had no idea how long it would take for the tubes to fully reload. They might have to be happy with single or double fire until the system could catch up for a full burst again.
When the torps fired their glorious spread at the enemy, he hit to initiate the jump as soon as he knew the last torp was clear of their warp bubble. The computer had the jump distance automatically calculated, but fortunately it was relatively simple to perform if you had the time in advance to program it, as he had. You just picked your target reference point and then added the variable of the distance from it on the desired approach vector. You couldn't do it with a standard helm console configuration, but that's where you could tell an experienced pilot. Everyone had their own special setups, and often variants designed for specific types of missions. This was the first live one he had done with the Zephyr. He had run simulations and done it with a similar craft, but not this specific ship.
As he hit the jump, he said to his console, "Come on baby. Show them how you can dance."
== Krandall would not have delayed in the least, but only the GM knows how close we cut it...and even if all went well, we're not out of this yet...GM Input on our jump and if we then begin lining up on new targets...or not... ==
