The engineering console sparked unexpectedly and A’kilees jumped back in his seat protecting his face with his arms. He had managed to keep the levels of the cryogenic coolant stable while they had performed the two microjumps but that was about it. He wasn’t aware about any of the Zephyr’s operational capabilities at this point. A few seconds passed and the saurian peered out between his arms towards the screen. The display was malfunctioning, it flickered slightly and the outlay was distorted while powered down and on again. A’kilees attempted to fix the console as best he could so that he could make a damage assessment but this was made harder by the somewhat nonfunctional operating system. It took a few moments to recalibrate and the engineering console soon became stable enough to give him some readings and notifications from all levels of the ship.
The Zephyr was, to say lightly, in a terrible state of affairs. The screen showed more than two clawfuls of errors and problems throughout the entire vessel. The microjumps they had performed hadn’t done the old Steamrunner any favors while also jumping into an intense combat situation with the Cardassian battle fleet. Structural integrity across multiple decks were compromised with other lower decks reporting structural buckling. Various consoles and control systems were destroyed and fried. EPS trunk lines were ruptured in different areas leaking plasma. Even reports of multiple injuries and seven crew fatalities had gotten his attention.
A fine mess we’ve got ourselves into…
Scanning through the operating systems, A’kilees was relieved to see that the Zephyr’s offensive and defensive capabilities were still operating. Shields were still functioning within acceptable parameters while both phaser cannons and torpedoes were operational.
Maybe we still have a fighting chance then.
A’kilees tapped on his combadge.
[A’kilees to Engineering, what's your current stat-?]
*BOOM, BOOM*
The Zephyr rocked suddenly and violently. A’kilees grabbed the console to steady himself and looked up towards the main display as the shaking subsided. Two disruptor blasts had impacted the forward deflectors and two Hideki class Cardassian ships had turned to engage them and were ready to open fire yet again.
"Keir, A'kilees; clamp down on those ruptured warp manifolds. Emergency-vent the damaged coil conduits and isolate the nacelle plasma feeds before we get a backflash into the core. Shunt every kilowatt of auxiliary power we just saved from the offline warp drive directly into the Structural Integrity Field and the aft shield emitters. Route secondary deflector control to the bridge until Gath secures the lower station." Morad ordered.
“Aye sir!” acknowledged A’kilees and got straight to work. The Commander knew more than anybody about the ship, except for Chief Keir and Raven in A’kilees’ opinion, and would be aware of how much the Zephyr could take in a combat situation such as this. He gave a glance over to Keir 77 sitting nearby, turned back to his console and tried his best to concentrate on the task at hand rather than the skirmish happening at that moment waiting for Gath to message the bridge.
