== NPC Lt Tom Krandall, Tactical Officer ==
Tom realized that if he was going to fly them through this, he had to adapt to the situation and pkay to his strengths. He was now in a dogfight. In a dogfight, you didn't use micro-jumps and in space, You weren't limited by atmospheric conditions.
Reaching over to the edge of his console, he pressed one of his buttons for an alternate console configuration. The majority of his display remained the same, but there were now two round displays that gave indication s on the of target locations. Each had a tiny designation of what Tactical had named them, as well as their relative direction and if they were headed toward or away fron his position. Tom would then use his fighter training to employ impulse dogfighting skills to gain firing positions on the enemy while being the most difficult target these Cardassians ever encountered.
Tom called out, "Lieutenant Powl, I 'm about to engage them as a heavy fighter, but would very much appreciate your weapons skills as my gunner. With your permission, I will be monitoring the weapons recharge and reload rates and do my best line them up if you could do your best to knock them down as quickly as possible. If you have a target you favor, especially if you notice a weakness we can exploit, just call out the number and it will instantly become my new focus in life. Be aware that I will be lining up targets in our entire sphere of influence, so try to keep up on all targets at once. There will be excessive movement to avoid possible incoming fire."
Tom had already began increasing his maneuvers. The constant swift rolls that then suddenly changed direction of exit were classic for small fighters that were being evasive. He could also drift briefly as the ship rotated quickly to a new heading and then stop drifting, suddenly moving in a perpendicular path to an enemy in pursuit. The Zephyr wasn't quite as agile as a fighter, but to any pilot who was not accustomed to fighting fighters in close proximity, they would be at quite a disadvantage. Pilots of ships the size of the Zephyr and larger, they simply were not trained in such tactics. Using your maneuvering thrusters while drifting so you could line us a target in your firing arc, that was too "outside the box" for most to anticipate and counter. Even if one of their pilots had his same background, he doubted they had his kill count.
"Yep, time for a knife fight. Time to dance."
== Tag Powl...if you get too busy to post the combat, let me know and I can combine our efforts. However, should you wish to combine Tom's tactics in your writing, please feel free to do so. This is both an effort to kill bad guys and give you more to work with as well. ==
== GM input: The inertial dampeners should be able to keep up, but let me know if we begin to suffer damage that impacts flight performance. The change in display is based on something old gamers might recall from a little game called Tie Fighter, which gave a reference of targets ahead and behind at the same time, but in a spherical context. ==
