"I certainly think we'll be learning a lot about our crewmates tonight and tomorrow when I undoubtedly have a few complaints to accidentally misplace in my shred pile," Tyra commented with a mischievous grin. "Not everyone can handle the security brand of humor and it's always good to pick them out early."
Mara laughed at that, feeling that she was suddenly on much safer ground. Her sense of humour was one of those that should come with a health warning. Her initial plans for the party were even more robust than the final version that the Artemis crew were now coming face to face with. But the Captain’s approval gave her some reassurance that she’d come close enough to hitting the mark.
"Speaking of learning a lot about people, I'm very curious about where our dashing commander found his rather young date. She doesn't look broken enough to be one of ours but a night here might change that." There was a wry chuckle as Tyra finished.
Calleja turned.
“Young? You show me those 2 without tellin’ me better, I’d think he was introducin’ his daughter to the crew,” she replied with a wolfish grin. “All power to him though. She looks well outta his league.”
She held back as Tyra greeted Damian and Eun Ju, dark eyes gauging the relationship between the two before making herself known. Although it had been toned down considerably since she joined Artemis, Calleja’s accent was still very strong to anyone meeting her for the first time.
“Boss,” she said, nodding to Coleman. “Very sharp. All you’re missin’ is the hat with a feather,” she added with a grin.
Mara let the younger woman introduce herself to Tyra before she leant over.
“Ju. Welcome,” she said. “I’m Mara, although I answer to most things. And don’t worry about crashin’. There’s enough goin’ on here and plenty to drink for everyone. You’re very welcome. And not just ‘cause you turned up on the FO’s arm. I’m sure he’s got hidden depths, and maybe once you’ve had a couple drinks we can convince you to tell us what they are, ‘cause he’s battin’ way above his average,” she teased gently with a grin.
Calleja was doing her best to be welcoming and not in the least bit intimidating, but that didn’t come easy to a woman who stood a powerfully-built 6’2” before putting on her boots. Still, she was harmless enough, her sense of humour apparently aimed firmly at the First Officer.
