"Okay, okay, I can see that I have no choice in the matter," Aeryn teased. " As for how to make it interesting, well I thought we could make a game out of it, first one who gets all three knives near or in the middle of the bullseye wins."
“Oh. That it?” Beka’s eyebrows raised as a wicked smile flashed across her lips. “Just a little friendly competition? That is a let-down.”
She wasn’t entirely certain that her teasing was why Aeryn missed the bullseye on her first attempt, but Beka would definitely be taking the credit anyway. She was feeling much more relaxed now, and laughed right along with Robin as the CMO’s throw clattered away.
"Hey, at least I didn't hit anyone!" Robin said with a wide grin. "You're up, Doc. Imagine there's a face in the bullseye. I'll bet you can think of a few."
“Oh, I’ve got a list,” Beka threw back. “‘Do no harm’ doesn’t apply to parties, right? It certainly didn’t with my ex.”
The redhead flicked the knife around in her hand so the hilt settled into her palm.
“I think I remember how to do this,” she said. “It’s about getting the spin right so the blade hits where you want it to… The guy who taught me, well, let’s just say he had plenty of practice.”
Her outfit wasn’t exactly conducive to taking a proper stance, especially the heels, but she got comfortable, drew her arm back and threw. The knife was nearly flat when it hit the target, the tip of the blade just about biting for a couple of seconds before it slid out and hit the floor.
“Hey, I’m seeing out my goes, I’m close!” Beka said, her competitive streak reasserting itself as she braced for the mockery. Blocking it out, she corrected her aim and threw again, the second knife sticking halfway on the bullseye, halfway into the next ring. She adjusted again and the final knife buried itself to the hilt in the middle of the target.
“Gotcha,” she said with a smirk on her lips, before going to retrieve the blades they’d all thrown. “Let’s see you two finish off now!”
