"Well, all I know about the Titania is that it's a Luna class starship," she said. "It's given me memories of the last Luna class I served on, the Callisto. Unfortunately, I wasn't on it long before it was destroyed...two months, I believe? Allah forbid the Titania gets destroyed two months or so after my transfer; that happens, I'll know I'm a jinx to the class." Gave Said.
Sothrick took a deep breath. "Well Commander, it may be bad luck to have us both aboard. My track record for having ships destroyed while on duty is way worse." He said giving a rare joke but delivered as dry as always.
Said quickly seemed to not be in the mood for joking as she turned towards her former Captain.
"I know we had just arrived, but I feel we should talk about how we can work on leading the Security department. I mean, we are both commanders of sorts, even if I'm a lieutenant commander. Should we split our shifts, exchange times we can be on the bridge, take command of two halves of the Security department? It's just that...no offense, I had assumed I was going to be Chief of Security. However, I was in such a hurry in my transition, I failed to notice you were coming aboard and therefore being Chief of Security. I know it'll mean I'll be your deputy again, but now that I'm a lieutenant commander, should I be more like...co-chief? Split leading duties between the two of us, as I said?"
He took another breath. He looked down as she spoke to the young officer. He understood her frustration. Perhaps more than anyone.
"Commander, First you are still a Lieutenant Commander. You have not lost your rank and your skills are not lost on me. You were not demoted. Starfleet just has a different need for us both. I understand your frustration perhaps better than anyone.
However, I look at this as a better chance to properly prepare you to become a better Chief of Security and I am sure it wont take you long to become a First Officer. I feel things moved quickly this will give you a better chance to work with me.
Before we go making any big plans let me talk with this Captain. I have not worked with this one yet. They may have their own ideas. We, you and I , will also need to meet the rest of our department and then we will have time to sit and talk about, titles and expectations a little more..." The Vulcan gave and seemed he was going to say more but the door slid open to reveal a familiar face.
"Now, however is not that moment." He said just as Keti stepped up.
"Ensign Keti, I am pleased to see you." He gave back as the young officer greeted them.
"Commanders both of you have lead, I am not sure how many missions, even when everything went sideways I always knew that my superiors would make some kind of plan. Any advice you can give to someone about leading in the Starfleet manner?"
Sothrick was proud of the young officer almost father like he found the odd emotional connection a little strange for him.
"In a, Starfleet, manner. Well the as far as starfleet it is a matter of knowing and utilizing the processes that they have set in place. It is managing the people that can be a bit... tricky. You have to remember to find and utilize each of your teams strength while knowing how to compliment their weaknesses. Every person is a bit different so you have to know what works for them. The key thing is to rely on those above you where you can. Even though I am not your commanding officer any more I am still here if you need anything from advice or assistance to just what humans call, a chance to... complain." He gave.
