As Tyra rounded the desk, her blue eyes caught on the glasses and bottle she had hastily stowed in the cubby under her console and she quickly pivoted towards the replicator to collect a cup of very strong coffee. No, her alcohol tolerance was at sky high levels and two drinks was hardly enough to even give her the slightest of buzzes but this was a conversation that she needed to be on her toes for, for her, Damian and this young woman's sake. The ensign was just settling into her seat when Tyra returned to her own seat with coffee cup in hand.
While Tyra tended to lean towards a more casual relationship when it came to her senior officers and those she dealt with on the bridge regularly, she usually tried to install a sense of formality and principle when meeting her younger officers during their transfer process. It was easier to lay out the expectations from that position, even knowing that her future dealings with them would involve less policy and procedures. However, this was inherently different on multiple levels; not only was this not the first time that she was meeting Ensign Han but her presence on the Artemis had the potential to cause her quite a few headaches if this wasn't handled correctly. As such, she bypassed her normal hands clasped on the desk routine and instead, reclined slightly, her left leg crossed over her right with that knee acting as a resting place for her coffee.
"It's good to see you again, Captain. Thank you for accepting me onto your ship," the ensign managed after a few moments of silence.
There was the tiniest of chuckles that escaped the redhead before she shook her head. "Don't thank me yet; it's more of a preliminary acceptance at the moment. There's just a few things I wanted to discuss and clear up before I put my final stamp of approval on it."
For a second, she watched the engineer over the rim of her cup as she took a sip of the coffee, the strong, almost bitter taste mixing with the remnants of the whiskey at the back of her throat. Briefly, she considered whether she should have opted for an Irish Coffee instead of just black but dismissed it just as quickly.
"However, I couldn't very well leave your request in the queue until I had a chance to fully vet you, lest Da-- Commander Coleman take notice of it and feel obligated to act in one way or another. His reputation means a great deal to me and I will not create a situation that brings the appearance of any impropriety on his part, which is why he is not involved in this in any sense," she said, her tone firm as she spoke.
"As you may or may not know, your former commanding officer and I are quite close. In addition to serving as my first officer for more years than I would like to admit, she's quite literally married to my brother so it's safe to say that I have gotten both the official and unofficial retelling of your time on the Philly. I'm very clear on what Commander Jensen's opinion of you is but I'd like to hear your side of it. Particularly, how exactly a piece of candy managed to snowball into you being removed from an away team."
What Tyra didn't say was that while she trusted Jenny implicitly, her opinion of Jenny's first officer was about as low as it could be. She had little respect for someone that blindly put orders before lives and she had even less respect for a former security officer who was so willing to abandon people to their fate for the sake of his own safety. It was safe to say that if Jensen had been within range of her when she'd learned about the Philly/Yeager fiasco, it likely would have taken both Damian and Calleja to pull her off of him. However, no matter her personal distaste, she wouldn't talk poorly about another command level officer to a subordinate in this circumstance.
