Captain Brook brought their short meeting to a close, asking Niels if there was anything he wanted to add. Much like a restaurant, the ship had a crew who needed to work together smoothly in order to maintain efficient operation. Even one person out of sync with the rest of the team could lead to problems. The Aquila was a big ship, bigger than most, and with a crew complement that could staff hundreds of restaurants. The image was both daunting and exciting. The coordination that would be required to make sure everything ran smoothly was far beyond any management experience he had to date. Still, as Niels rose from his chair, he felt up to the challenge.
“It will take some time to get the new engineering crew settled in,” Niels said, “but I’m confident they will be an asset to the ship.”
Standing at attention, Niels added, “I have nothing further to add, beyond my thanks, again, for this recognition.”
Niels waited quietly to be dismissed, then gave the Captain and First Officer each a nod before taking his leave.
