Tyra was well practiced in the art of keeping her expressions in check, though she was use to it being related to extremely negative and often volatile emotions. She didn't actually know what to do with the warmth that seemed to bloom in her chest and spread slowly into her shoulders as Han described her experience at the Christmas party.
When she thought back on her career, she always seemed to comeback to the Gettysburg and the Avenger as the benchmarks for how she wanted her crew to be with each other. Both crews had been close knit, forged in the fires of war and hardship until they'd been truly a family. It was what she wanted for Artemis, though it felt like the revolving door made that too difficult to accomplish lately. But maybe, they had succeeded to a degree, more so than she thought.
“There is also the fact that your ship is impressive, massive, and your Engineering deck is almost bigger than the Philly as a whole. The opportunities to work on Propulsion research and to continue my hopes of making life support systems that much more efficient will be better suited here than over there. The career opportunities were not lost on me either when I looked through the available specs I could find on the PADD database,” Han explained with that same sense of wonder she'd seen in numerous engineering transfers.
She remembered feeling that same wonder when she'd first seen the Artemis at spacedock and when she'd walked her halls for the first time, and finally, when she'd seen the slipstream come to life for the first time. She still felt it from time to time even years later.
“I hope you’ll give me a chance, I really do think I could be a boon to the ship," the ensign finished.
Tyra nodded her head slowly, though she didn't answer the last part directly. "I may be bias but I do think the Artemis is a magnificent ship with the best crew. I couldn't ask for better on either account. I hope you come to find your place in both."
The redhead paused, taking a sip of coffee as she regarded Han closely. It wasn't lost on her that Damian had only been mentioned in the most brief and vague of senses and yet, having been in Han's shoes, she knew what a driving force feelings of entanglement were. There was no doubt in her mind that she would have transferred for Rex at the height of their relationship and she most certainly would have transferred for Thomas if he'd ever asked, both superiors to her at the time.
"But before you do that, there is one last thing we need to discuss," Tyra started as she considered, once again, that she should have gotten an Irish Coffee. Her previous whiskey intake wasn't doing anything to cut the incoming awkwardness.
"Normally, I try to stay out of the personal lives of my people. It's frankly just not my business but there are times when circumstances dictate otherwise and this is one of them, unfortunately. So... What exactly are your intentions with Commander Coleman?"
The question wasn't pointed or challenging nor did Tyra pointedly look up at the wall of weapons behind her. There might have been a touch of sisterly concern but ultimately, the question was asked surgically with careful precision.
