It seemed that their conversation was going well. She hadn’t made Captain Crawford angry or anything it seemed which was good news for her. Ju knew that she was a good officer it was merely the art of convincing Crawford that was the case. Who knew what Captain Braggins had said about her, but it didn’t matter, she could prove herself with the chance. Now everything was up to the Captain. As Crawford stated that both of her hopes and dreams could come true here on the Artemis, a smile spread across the young officer’s face and her eyes lit up even more than before.
It seemed that she had been accepted onto the ship, however, the Captain did not dismiss her. Instead, she looked pensive. As though she had something else on her mind, and now, Ju just had to wait until the Captain was ready to ask whatever was going on. She stated that she had one more thing to discuss for Han fully joined the ship. Ju waited as patiently as she could watching the Captain and all her body language and the tensity that was evident for a moment before she finally asked.
Damian was the topic, and Ju had truthfully known this question was coming. There was no way that after having brought her to the Christmas party as her date it would not be lost on the Captain. Han had been careful not to mention him in anything other than a professional capacity when talking about her reasons for coming to the ship because she did not want the Captain to believe that it was Damian who had pulled her to the ship. He had certainly helped, though.
For a moment, Han was quiet as she thought about exactly what she wanted to say. “I’ll be completely honest, Captain, I’m not certain. We met and had a drink during shore leave between my graduation and my assignment. Afterwards he brought me as his plus one to the Christmas party. We exchange correspondence regularly but what my intentions are.. I’m not sure yet. I am still very much getting to know Commander Coleman. I do hope to get to know him better to see if we continue to be compatible, but otherwise, I have no ill intent.”
Han wanted to have a better answer, she wanted to say they were together, but at this time she didn’t know. She had not informed Damian of her transfer, she had not even mentioned it, because she wanted to earn her spot on her own. She wanted to have made this choice without anyone’s influence but instead wanted to stand on her own. Even if she and the Commander entered into a full relationship she till wanted to stand on her own. She did not want to be someone who relied on someone else for her success.
