The young ensign was quiet for a moment after Tyra's question and the redhead could appreciate the care she was taking. In truth, Tyra didn't want to be meddling like this, she far preferred to hear such things from Cera, but this was the kind of thing that could easily and subtly subvert morale in the blink of the eye, potentially before she even knew she had a problem.
“I’ll be completely honest, Captain, I’m not certain. We met and had a drink during shore leave between my graduation and my assignment. Afterwards he brought me as his plus one to the Christmas party. We exchange correspondence regularly but what my intentions are.. I’m not sure yet. I am still very much getting to know Commander Coleman. I do hope to get to know him better to see if we continue to be compatible, but otherwise, I have no ill intent.”
This time, Tyra made no attempt at hiding the way her eyebrow arched at the answer. Because the young woman had accompanied Damian so openly to the Christmas gathering, she had assumed that the pair had progressed a little bit past passing notes and drunken flirting -- according to Cera, at least. However, that didn't seem to be the case unless this girl was just the best poker player around and Tyra just didn't think that was the case.
Damian…. you couldn't have picked someone a little older…. By like, I don't know, a pip or two?
Now, she did lean forward, setting her cup on the desk as she steepled her hands in front of her. For once, she was wearing her wedding ring and she twisted it on her finger as she considered her answer.
"I appreciate your candor and I, further, appreciate you not being offended by my prying. Truthfully, I would be an absolute hypocrite if I had any issues with relationships amongst my crew but I, also, need to balance the privacy of my people with our ability to function as a ship," she explained, her tone almost gentle.
"If y'all's relationship progresses, Damian and I will discuss what needs to be adjusted but I do want to make this clear: if you all do begin a relationship in earnest, I will remove Damian from your chain of command. This is not because I do not trust you or do not trust him but because, from experience, I know the damage rumors of impartiality can cause and I won't let that happen."
She let that settle for a moment before nodding her head slightly, seemingly satisfied. "Now, do you have any questions for me before I send you out into your new playground?"
