== Day 5? - The Day After Coffee with Calleja ==
Her boots felt immensely heavy as she stepped into her sanctuary. As soon as the doors closed behind her, she let out the breath that seemed to have been stuck in her lungs for the past two hours. She undid her jacket as she walked further, bypassing her desk, but not before she threw her jacket at it with more force than was necessary.
She didn't even fully register pouring herself a glass of whiskey but it was in her hand as she wearily dropped onto the couch. Her elbows found her knees and her head found itself resting in her free hand as she once again considered this grand mess.
It had been no surprise when investigators had shown up the afternoon before with questions and it has likely been no surprise to any of the parties involved when she'd promptly kicked them out and told them to come back when her representation was available and on site. And it had been even less surprising when they'd promptly scheduled a meeting for bright and early the following morning, this morning.
How the meeting had gone also was probably a surprise to no one. There has been a lot of questions and a lot of "I don't recall" or interjections from her JAG of "no comment". Truthfully, having been on their side of the table, she had almost felt bad until they'd tipped their hand a little too far and began asking questions about things well in the past that had nothing to do with any of matters at hand.
She knew her eyes had narrowed as they'd asked about Doctor Monroe and her death and it was only Alex's hand on her arm that kept her from turning an "I don't recall" into a "go **** yourself". It had snowballed from there as they showed just far far they'd dug into her history and turned into a test of patience and willpower for Tyra as she resisted rising to the bait.
Ultimately, she'd walked out a free woman still, though there had been a promise that there would be another interview scheduled in the future. Alex had answered with far more grace than Tyra would have as she'd rather forcefully ushered her client out of the office. They'd parted a short time later, though Alex had already messaged to arrange a meeting for early the next morning to discuss their options and strategies, and Tyra had trudged on to her sanctuary with some hope that she'd find a little sliver of peace there.
However, there seemed to be very little peace available it seemed, not when it felt like the guillotine's blade had dropped a couple inches closer to her neck.
Without much thought, she threw back the entire contents of the glass in one motion, the burn taking the edge off of the numbness that had seeped in over the last hour. She poured herself another glass out of habit, considering where she was on her to-do list and what was feasible for her to accomplish before the second meeting occurred.
If there was a real chance she'd be removed from her current position -- and it felt like there was now -- she wanted to make sure she did right by her people, even if it meant pushing forward promotions and jamming through approvals left and right.
She swallowed another mouthful, the burn eating away at just a little more numbness, and then, pushed herself to her feet. She could wallow in her own self-pity later, in the privacy of her quarters, but for now, she needed to stay busy.
