"All of our favourite snack food, sandwiches, cake, juice and yes you are, but I still love you, and we can eat whenever you want."
“All of it? That’s a mighty bold boast there. And pretty much impossible.” Beka’s eyebrows flicked up suggestively before she laughed. “Although I love that you’ve tried!”
The redheaded doctor picked out a can of her favourite Bajoran cola, flicked it open one-handed and took a long slug straight from the can. She quickly and unashamedly stacked her plate with a selection of chicken and Scotch eggs and tucked in.
“Oh, this is amazing,” she said, ripping into a chicken drumstick. “What’s the sauce? I’m gonna need the recipe. Or the replicator code.”
Sydesh looked out across the lake again.
“So… Chief Science Officer, eh?” she asked. “I gotta admit, I didn’t see that coming! From what I’ve heard of that away team, I thought you did pretty well out there all things considered. I guess not well enough for you?”
She looked back at Aeryn, curious to see her girlfriend’s reaction to the question. Beka wasn’t being reproachful at all. Her surprise had been genuine, especially when it came to how fast everything had fallen into place.
“I’m amazed it all happened so fast though. I mean, being selfish, I’m glad you’re not a front line combatant any more, but it’s a real change for you. Did you get much time to think about it?”
Her emerald eyes betrayed her curiosity as she took another bite from the chicken.
