Beka wasn’t entirely surprised to hear that Support had been involved in the picnic - Cera’s purple-shirted army seemed to be involved in pretty much everything at some point.
Although I can imagine that help being withdrawn if Aeryn ever told them it was me joining her. I’m still unforgiven for whistling…
The thought amused the doctor. Support had been nothing but courteous when she’d needed to call on them professionally, and there had never been anything explicit to say she had been blacklisted for crossing Lt Morgan. But either way, she had never asked, and they had never offered. At some point Sydesh would likely atone for her transgression, but until then, she was admiring the perks of their help from afar.
Still never got my bomber jacket…
"So am I, and agree it is a massive change, but it's one that I'm really excited about, and it's something I'd been thinking about once I got back to Artemis."
As Aeryn spoke, Beka accounted for a sizeable chunk of the food on her plate. Her appetite was coming back now that she was free to exercise again. But a frown settled on her brow as her girlfriend stopped.
“That it?” Sydesh replied. “That’s all I get about such a big life decision? I mean, I know we haven’t exactly been going long, but still… That’s a huge call. Your whole career progression, and how you fit on the ship, and where a lot of other people all sit… That’s all changed. Everything revolves around lab reports, whilst Security ends up under the command of someone less good whilst you’re still around to watch it go downhill. And I don’t really get why.”
She sighed and unwound a little.
“Sorry, I don’t mean to ruin everything. You just caught me by surprise is all.”
