As she entered the Briefing Room Robin stifled a yawn. She'd been working an extended shift and had been on duty since 5 AM, and the coffee had long since worn off. The young Augment didn't dare have another cup. After the briefing (assuming it wasn't an emergency) she planned to go straight to bed and get enough sleep to keep her going for launch... and caffeine was a bad idea.
Robin had only returned yesterday from her month-long trip to Earth. She'd set up her new home, spent time with relatives she hadn't seen since she was a toddler, and otherwise enjoyed being surrounded by the fresh green of the Appalachians. Her aunt had been right; she'd spent far too long cooped up in metal tubes surrounded by hard vacuum. However luxurious the Artemis was by the standards of other starships it was still limited, even with holodecks to simulate the great outdoors.
Ultimately I don't think people are meant to live like this, at least not long-term.
The Artemis had a new Captain, though the purple-haired nurse hoped it was only temporary. Starfleet was playing games as far as she was concerned, and it only served to tick her off. Tyra Crawford had built this command, had captained the ship since its launch. She'd seen the ship through some terrifying encounters. There was a stability in having her in the big chair. And now Starfleet was blaming her for their screwups? They'd given her an impossible mission, and then complained about the way she'd done it. If only Elias hadn't confessed. She understood why from an ethical standpoint, but still thought it wad been a terrible idea.
As Uncle Frank said, "Cop didn't see it, I didn't do it." Ben didn't have to confess his sins, and the evidence had crashed into the Cardassian Nor station. And they call me a choir girl? I hadn't been planning on saying anything about the cloak. We're alive because of it.
The only person in the Briefing Room was the ship's Chief Tactical Officer, Miles Grant. She gave him a warm smile. She'd missed the Artemis crew, and she was glad to be back. "How are you doing, Lieutenant Grant?" Robin tended to be friendly and cheerful but still business-like on duty. She rarely called her fellow officers by their first names while in uniform, though some others preferred to do so. It didn't bother her; it just wasn't her style.
After taking a seat about halfway down the table she asked "Have you had a chance to talk to the new Captain yet?"
