As Tyra watched Damian over the top of her glass, it was hard to ignore the fact that he looked and spoke like a man in love, or at minimum, very smitten. It was a contrast against the more reserved hesitance of Ju but she also supposed Damian was more likely to be open with her on the matter, particularly after the conversation they'd had.
She felt that tiny tug of longing again, missing the way she'd catch her husband looking at her with that lovestruck smile from time to time when he thought she wasn't looking. Not that he wasn't allowed to look at her like that whenever he wanted but he knew she was quick to tease him for being a sappy old man.
"Just be patient. It's a marathon, not a sprint," she offered with a warm smile, appreciating how Damian had opened up to her. For having started this meeting on opposite ends of an abyss, it felt like they'd built a bridge or the framework of a bridge.
They were silent for a few moments, each nursing their drink with the utmost care, Damian spoke again. His sigh had been the warning sign that the had likely changed, or he was about to divulge to her that he'd somehow ended up in a messy love triangle he needed help extracting himself from. Fortunately, it was not the latter, although maybe that would have been easier to solve.
Tyra was silent as he began to talk about the Atlanta and Captain Peck. Previously, he'd given her enough information that she had been able to draw her own conclusions about the mess that Damian had found himself in on his previous assignment. However, never in her wildest nightmares, had she imagined that this whole mess might drag that back to the surface; that she would inadvertently pull the skeletons out of his closet.
“I just felt like you should at least hear it from me first, or maybe second if Cera somehow knew about all of that already,” he concluded with a chuckle, though Tyra didn't really feel like chuckling when faced with this news.
"Cera is currently on a fact finding mission for me, though I asked her to focus on myself, Elias and Nathan Ramius. I'll be honest, I didn't consider that they might go after you, not like this…" Her voice was soft, apologetic with a tinge of guilt, her blue eyes dipping down to her drink for a moment.
She swallowed before bringing her gaze back up to meet Damian's. "I'm sorry. I know continuing to say that doesn't fix anything but I am. I kept you in the dark to try to protect you from the consequences of this mess and yet, here we are…"
Her eyes flickered down again but only for a second, even as she took a sip of her drink. "Tell me what you need me to do. It's probably wisest if we continue on as if this doesn't bother me and you're not an effective pawn to use against me but if you want me to pull strings, I will. I owe you that much."
"And if Captain Peck somehow drags you into the mess fully, I'll wage a war for you, don't doubt it. As shocking as it might seem, I'm pretty good at it," she promised, her lips curving into a wry grin at the last.
