More people began to arrive for the briefing, including Lucy and Ju, who Aeryn quickly acknowledged as they greeted the CSO. However, any further conversation soon evaporated as a woman wearing command red entered the room and silently took the seat where Crawford usually sat. Whoever she was acknowledged those present by offering them a smile, but that was all they were going to get for the moment, which only strengthened Aeryn's trepidation as to the reason for her being there.
Others carried on talking, but Aeryn chose to listen while taking the opportunity to assess the situation before a man arrived who she recognised as the Commander who Damian had spoken to at Ju's party. The way he then approached Ju, told Aeryn all that she needed to know, which, if anything, made her feel sad, that Elias wasn't where he should rightfully be. Not that she had anything against the new CE assuming she was correct, and she often wasn't wrong when it came to her gut instinct.
Aeryn knew she was optimistic, believing that everything would correct itself, that they wouldn't have lost two members of the Artemis family, but it was going to take some time to accept it all. A change could be a fickle thing and this was huge, but for now, she chose to hold back, and maybe it wouldn't be so bad. Then came a distraction that never failed to make her smile as Beka arrived after Mara, offering a smile to her successor as COS before returning the wink that Beka gave her.
When Damian entered the room it felt as though everything was right with the universe, and maybe the odds of him becoming Acting CO hadn't been completely unfounded until he did something that diverted Aeryn back to the woman he handed the padd to. There was that sinking feeling again before Cera showed up, offering the kind of gesture usually reserved for Crawford. Her mind was conflicted at this point, but Aeryn figured she needed to give Captain Givens the benefit of the doubt.
The way she spoke about Callisto was probably the polite way to address it. Her expression softened somewhat as she gave a believable explanation. She also wasn't wrong about them being left in the dark, but understood that information was going to be limited, so she took a moment to think about what she wanted to ask, aware that she might not get an answer.
" Is there anything you can tell us about what happened to Captain Crawford and Commander Elias? All we know is that they're no longer on the ship".
