Ju was exceedingly happy that she had thrown the party during Shore Leave because she didn’t feel as strange and lonely walking into this room as she remembered her first day on duty onboard the Philly had been. There she had known no one but Ichika, and the briefing had turned into a whole crazy thing where people were upset, and felt that certain people were doing things wrong. It was complicated. Here she knew a handful of people by name and even more just by face. It was nice not to be a complete stranger to the room even if this was her first mission. Miles returned her hello kindly and she offered a warm smile in response. This was why she liked the Artemis, there was something warm about it.
There were others entering the room, some of them she knew, others she didn’t. A new face, Engineering gold upon his attire, stepped into the room. She didn’t know him, hadn’t met hi, but she vaguely remembered him as the guy who took Coleman away right before she had done her first round at karaoke. Ju figured that she would meet him later, except, that he seemed to have other plans. He came towards her with a smile on his face. Ju gave him one in return. Ju was the kind of girl that was nice to a fault at times, but she was also outgoing, and liked to give people chances.
He called her by her rank, which was not surprising, as they hadn’t been introduced yet. He told her he couldn’t recall her name but that he was Omdor Jaein. Her smile widened as she held out her hand to him. “It’s nice to meet you, Commander Jaein,” Ju gave his hand, if he gave his to her, a solid shake. “I’m Ensign Han Eun Ju, or Ensign Han.”
After the handshake, Ju noticed that Mara had come in and she shot her friend a kind smile. Mara had been a large part of what called Ju to the Artemis. Rough around the edges with a solid and kind core, Mara was good people and that’s who Ju wanted to surround herself with. A woman in Command Red had come in, at some point, because Ju hadn’t noticed her perhaps she had been too busy talking to Miles or Commander Jaein, but she hadn’t noticed the woman until just now but she could feel the confusion in the room with her empathic abilities of a half-breed.
What trumped all the emotions in the room was when her favorite Commander came into the room. His emotions, to her, were loud and clear. As much time as they spent together during Shore Leave she had come to be very familiar with his emotional presence even if she tried to keep her mind to herself. Empathy was not something easily turned off and she often read the room without thinking about it as it was like breathing. But, she never dove any deeper than she was allowed because she refused to void ethics. Her eyes followed Damian for a few moments before they moved away because she was not here to make a scene. They were dating, it was all over the ship, it was no secret especially after he had kissed her so publicly at the party. Still, she promised herself that she would remain professional on duty and would not be one of those girls that followed her man around everywhere begging for his attention. They were both professionals and while she was young she was not stupid.
Finally, the Commander stood up and began to introduce herself. So this is our current Captain, Ju thought to herself looking at the woman who was probably just as nervous as many in the room. She stated she did not know how long she would be here, or what was happening with the Captain and Chief Elias, but she was just going to do her best with the circus she had been given. Ju’s eyes shifted to her current Chief and then back to the Commander. I wonder if he knows anything..
Ju could feel the tension in the room, the confusion, the shock. Everything was on it’s side. Ju hoped the new Captain knew what she was getting, a fiercely loyal crew when it came to Crawford and their own kind. She had begun to witness it since moving to the ship just how tight knit the group here was. She didn’t have any questions for the Captain, so she stayed quiet and let the others do their talking.
