The question wasn't out of left field and truthfully, it was one she had expected. Yet, even with that forethought, she didn't know if she had a good answer to it because there was a line between what she was willing to say while drinking a beer with a close associate and what she was willing to tell the crew that was in the middle of this particular shit show. And somehow, she didn't think they'd appreciate the formal, official answer.
Fortunately, she didn't have to answer immediately as the newly minted Chief of Security spoke up. Given what she had read of the woman's record, Calleja's words were surprisingly understanding and spoke to the issue at hand.
She offered Calleja a smile, warm and appreciative. The first flicker of Cassandra relaxing. "Thank you, Lieutenant. I appreciate it and I think we're all in agreement on how awkward of a situation it is."
There was a pause, her shoulders straightening as she stood a little bit up from the chair. However, her arms still rested on the back of the chair.
"Officially, Lieutenant Commander Elias is currently moving through the judicial process. As I'm not privy to the finer details of an ongoing investigation, I can't tell you what the final charges were or what his outlook is but I know that it's grave enough that a temporary replacement was deemed necessary," she answered, motioning to the Bajoran engineer in the room.
Now, she paused for a moment, nose crinkling slightly as she considered how to deliver the second part of the answer. "As for Captain Crawford..."
Unlike with Elias, she knew the answer, no matter how unpalatable it was. After all, despite being a generation behind, Cass and Crawford ran in the same circles, knew the same people and likely shared some of the same friendships. The upper echelons of security officers, particularly those in command crimson, wasn't a large group and as such, it has been impossible to ignore what was being said, what the general consensus was. Whether they agreed that falling on her sword had been the right thing to do, they all seemed to agree it had been a railroading in progress from on high.
"Well, hopefully, she's enjoying some much deserved time on Risa," she said with hopes of lightening the following blow some.
"She's currently on an indefinite leave following the resolution of her judicial woes. As for what she actually pled no contest to, you'd be better off reaching out to her yourselves but I believe she won't have a difficult time finding a landing spot once her penance has been paid. No doubt Security HQ will be salivating at the chance to bring her back into the fold and frankly, if I was her, I'd feel a lot better about orange over crimson at the moment."
She let that moment hang in the air for a moment. Her dark eyes shifted over the room before glancing at Coleman with a slight head tilt, the tiniest of questions on whether he wanted to say anything before they moved on to the matters at hand.
