Aeryn was well aware of the so-called elephant in the room, but that didn't stop the CSO from pressing forward with the question she had asked, knowing she probably wasn't the only one wanting to learn the fate of Crawford and Elias. That being said, no one else seemed to come forward to ask any questions, except for Mara, after her friend had broken the tension, by breaking the glass she was holding. Having known the COS for some time now, Aeryn understood that it had been a reaction to the news they had just received, and regardless of the glass, the redhead was grateful for the backup as Mara addressed Givens.
She was right, of course. None of this was their new Captain's fault, but rather the injustice of it all, especially with the circumstances of the last mission. Aeryn had never quite been able to shake the feeling that it was all a setup for them to fail, and now here they were, preparing for a new mission, with a new Captain. It was a lot to process and, naturally, there would need to be some time for them to come to terms with it all. A task in itself but not completely unachievable, because regardless of how she felt, Aeryn was professional and wouldn't let it get in the way of following orders and doing her job.
Mara's words appeared to positively affect Givens, as the newcomer offered her a genuine smile, nodding in agreement to what was said about the awkwardness of the situation. Aeryn also appreciated the response from Givens as she told them what she could about Elias, before motioning to their temporary new CE. As much as the CSO hated the idea of the process Elias was now facing, she realised all she could was support him from afar.
Then came the news about Captain Crawford, again appreciating Givens' attempt to lighten the mood, as she began to process the information about Tyra's punishment. While she hoped that she was taking some deserved R&R, the idea that she might not come back haunted Aeryn, who would make an effort to reach out, even if it meant staying in touch, because Crawford, along with Damian, had been instrumental in keeping Aeryn grounded, and shape her into who she was today while reminding her that Artemis was her home and how to get through the most testing of situations.
" Thank you, Captain, I appreciate you answering my question, and I'm with Lieutenant Calleja about how this isn't your fault. Therefore, I'd like to welcome you to Artemis, and I look forward to hearing what our next mission will involve".
Aeryn wanted to start afresh, especially as this was new territory for everyone, and Givens deserved a chance.
Grant then asked another important question, which was quite relevant considering what they had just heard, and once again Aeryn waited patiently to hear if anything else was going to change for them.
