Givens acknowledged Aeryn's response, thanking the CSO before moving on to answering the question from Miles. It was reassuring to hear that the new Captain had no plans to change the current roster or replace anyone just because she was taking over, but that in itself came with a warning of sorts. Appreciating how Givens didn't sugarcoat the news that they were under scrutiny, nor was the science chief shocked upon hearing the reasons why, and how serious it was. Essentially, if they didn't want to suffer a similar fate to Crawford and Elias, they had to toe the line and prove that the opinions of some were unfounded and untrue.
Considering that this would be her first mission leading a different department, Aeryn felt that scrutiny more keenly, but decided not to worry about that now, as Givens continued. There was an edge to the Captain's tone as she made it clear that they weren't infallible and that she wouldn't hesitate to make changes if it saved the crew as a whole.
" Understood".
That signaled the end of the questions as Captain Givens brought about the next part of the meeting, ensuring that everyone's attention was now on the crate before she opened it. Aeryn's natural curiosity became heightened, wondering what they could represent, having already been handed her extra pip by Damian. Not that the room occupants had to wait to find out the answer when they were presented with a Gold Star in recognition of what they had endured on Callisto.
Taking hold of the black box as it slid towards her, Aeryn picked up a little hesitantly as Givens gave a further explanation. Opening it, the redhead stared at the yellow and red medal laid neatly inside of it, feeling those mixed emotions before she finally looked up. Aeryn was lost for words, unsure how to feel, but then didn't Givens say it was okay to accept it for the intention behind it, rather than cast it aside because of the opinions of others, and maybe she would do just that.
Robin spoke up, and Aeryn, still unable to find words suitable, offered a grateful nod in Givens direction.
