The news of the crew being in the spotlight really wasn’t news. With a department head in a jail cell and the CO on ‘administrative leave’, not even the most oblivious member of the crew could have been in any doubt of that. The actual mission itself seemed almost a sideshow to the investigations and legal troubles and various other dramas that seemed sure to play themselves out.
Are we even goin’ to have any time to actually be officers?
As the medals were handed out, Mara still stayed carefully blank. Dark eyes guardedly watched the box in front of her like it was a disguised mine. She wanted as few reminders as possible of the last mission, and she wasn’t really listening as Givens spoke.
The rewards of failure. They can keep it.
"Thank you, Captain. It's appreciated," Robin said, her own southern drawl a much lighter and softer mirror of Givens' own. "And welcome to the Artemis."
“Yeah. Welcome.” Calleja rose from her chair, figuring the meeting was over. “Wish it was under better circumstances.”
The medal box was still on the table as she turned to pick her way out of the room.
