Regardless of the mixed emotions that Aeryn was now experiencing due to receiving the medal, the CSO knew she had to focus on the meeting, which meant shelving her feelings until later. It was a trick that had helped Aeryn out on many an occasion, and she didn't think that would change anytime soon, as she realised who had been missed off the list of names mentioned by Givens. However, rather than be concerned, Aeryn decided to trust the process, and soon enough, Miles received not only his medal but also a promotion to full Lieutenant.
Coleman had been given the honour of presenting Grant with this and handling Emily's promotion to Ensign. Aeryn offered both officers a warm smile, genuinely happy for them, before Mara got up and attempted to leave. Concern was etched on her former superior's face as Coleman and Ju spoke to her. If they hadn't already approached the Bandaran, then Aeryn would have done the same.
The redhead liked to think she knew Mara better than most, watching and supporting her progress since becoming her Chief. Yet there was still that vulnerability underneath, how she didn't particularly like being touched, but the potential situation soon resolved itself as Mara apologised and sat down again.
Aeryn was also a fan of getting this over and done with, but of course, that now depended on how their new Captain would react to what they had just witnessed. Emotions were powerful, and the presentation of the medals had left a bad taste in Mara's mouth, and likely others too, but this wasn't the time to talk it out.
All they could do was await the response from Givens and, sure enough, detecting the sarcasm in her tone. The group was then presented with two options on how they would proceed before the CO told them how she wanted to get this done now rather than wait, and if anyone couldn't focus or pay attention, then they had to say so.
Aeryn knew what her decision would be, and so she remained silent because she was ready to have the proverbial bandaid ripped off, rather than have to come back the following day.
