Lucy didn’t know whether to feel frustrated or upset. Sending the Artemis to do a border check on a tricky nebula within spitting distance of the Cardassians. Were they being set up to fail or was this an epic show of trust in the fractious crew? She had questions about whether the nebula was the goal of their mission or there was something they weren’t being told. Cera returned with an extremely unexpected guest, Captain Tyra Crawford.
Cass didn’t seem to be thrown by the additional arrival with the exception that she was a surprised as the rest of the crew that it was Tyra. Mara beat Lucy to the metaphorical punch with an outburst in her own inimitable style. Somebody had been playing Find The Lady with Tyra as the queen in order to hide that she was on the Artemis for some unknown reason. To cap it all off she was equally in the dark.
Tyra was about comment about said outburst when Cass gave Mara a nuclear level put down worthy of any captain. Asskicking definitely equalled authority. Lucy suddenly had no questions to ask. Cass was definitely the right person to take over command of the Artemis. The odd thing was whatever this mission was intended to be the political levels were very much not in her wheelhouse.
Damn, I’m going to need something a lot stronger after this briefing is over. Glad I started with water.
Lucy took a breath and noted down the Hugora Nebula on her PADD along with the notation that the Maquis had used it before. Like the Badlands the Maquis seemed to have an affinity for awkward parts of space around Cardassian space. Monitoring a nebula was a pain and the restricted scanning range didn’t help. Could use a group of probes in formation, but how far they could go before losing contact wasn’t far.
