More chaos ensued shortly after Captain Crawford's appearance, not surprisingly originating from Calleja. Her words and actions, though deemed unprofessional, were not without merit. Her approach was not the best, Miles believed, but she wasn't necessarily wrong, especially after the snafu of last mission and how the higher ups had treated things as if they weren't responsible.
Miles wasn't overly fond of the "popcorn" scene going on among some of the others at the table. He had remained in place, observing things, but not enjoying the circus. He had thoughts of intervening, but was not entirely sure what he would accomplish, if anything, especially given the Chain of Command present, which had shortly taken the reigns of the situation, starting with Givens speaking, followed by Crawford.
Givens' words definitely rubbed Miles the wrong way, and almost lent credence to the thought process of her being a mouthpiece for the same types of higher ups that had thrown the Artemis into the situation they had found themselves in, but then put blame solely on the crew. He would have to keep an eye on how she handled herself during the actual mission.
Crawford was none too happy with how everyone was reacting, and Miles did not blame her. He also felt cowed for his inaction. He was supposed to be a leader, someone who could be trusted to maintain order. He couldn't always allow rank or the ideal of "not my place to intervene" get in the way. But he also needed to practice a sound judgement when it came to it.
After everything was settling down, they returned to the briefing at hand, and more detail was given. Some more questions were fielded, including from Calleja. When she had spoken, there was a noticeable tension on what she would say, but she kept her words mission-oriented this time around.
Then came another shocker, as more people entered the room, being lead by a Caitian Lieutenant Commander. After addressing Givens and Crawford, he made indications, and the three that were with him took positions around Commander Coleman....
Who was promptly placed under arrest. The shock was palpable. And Miles had no idea what to expect next.
