It seemed that her words had hit their mark as Devereaux acknowledged the rebuke and it had the added bonus of seemingly hitting a sore spot with Calleja. Not that Tyra wanted to jab at the Chief of Security but it felt like they were on a very slippery slope that would get wildly out of control if she didn't get a handle on it.
And yet, it seemed she wasn't destined to get a handle on anything. Possibly ever again, it felt like as the ground under her feet tilted once more with little warning.
The sound of the doors opening once more caught Tyra's attention, her blue eyes immediately flicking upwards with the expectation that it would be Cera stepping through once more. Instead, it was an unfamiliar Caitian security Lieutenant Commander leading a very familiar march that stepped inside the room with three more security officers in tow.
Tyra felt her stomach drop immediately, eyes shifting towards Givens who looked just as taken aback by their appearance. It seemed like Bill had vastly underestimated how much time they had before someone realized what he was up to and very likely overestimated his own influence it seemed. She gathered that was the same conclusion Givens had reached based on the slightest of glances thrown her way in the seconds before the feline thrusted a PADD into the brunette's hands.
“Captain Givens,” the interloper said, addressing Givens before throwing a greeting in her direction. That just served to confuse Tyra slightly; one didn't often show respect to your future detainee. “Apologies for interrupting, but I have important business.”
Tyra had already shifted her hands to push herself out of her chair, not intending to make this powder keg of a situation anymore volatile than it already was, when she realized that the three accompany security officers hadn't moved towards her side of the table. Instead, they had positioned themselves directly behind Damian.
She didn't need to read the PADD that Givens tossed in front of her with a clatter, it landing on the one she had dropped moments earlier. She knew exactly what it said, what it likely laid out and by Givens' own actions, she knew there was no hole to pick in the orders. And she knew this was absolutely her doing, another piece of collateral damage dropping down like another strike of the guillotine. She had hoped Ben's fate and her own had been penance enough but clearly, it wasn't. She had survived somehow but she'd unwittingly sacrificed her Queen and her Bishop in the process.
If she'd been less jumbled with more clarity, she might have heard the clicking of pieces falling into place. She might have seen the bigger picture for what it was, able to see exactly what Bill's chess board had looked like when he made his decision, but the guilt seemed to claw itself up her throat with a viciousness that she couldn't control. Her already pale skin lost all of its color, her usually faint freckles across her nose and cheekbones standing out like little smudges against the pallor, and her eyes seeming wider than usual.
"I'm sorry," she whispered, though she wasn't sure if the words actually left her lips, as she looked at Coleman.
Givens, for her part, had remained quiet as Caitian had gone through the typical spiel in these situations. In fact, she probably could have recited most of it verbatim because it was the standard process. She even managed to keep her ire in check through the explanation of rights, allowing a long enough pause to let Coleman respond if he so chose, but that was about as long as her patience would last. It seemed Crawford wasn't going to say anything, judging from her expression she wasn't sure if the captain would find any words in the foreseeable future, and she felt like someone needed to.
"Lieutenant Commander, did I miss the notification of your impending arrival? I understand the position you're in but I believe it's still standard procedure to inform a commanding officer [b]before[\b] you board their vessel with the intent to arrest one of their officers. At minimum, it's bad manners, bordering on disrespectful, to board a vessel without permission but I suspect we're well past a case of bad manners, aren't we?" Despite the fact that her voice hadn't risen, there was a definite venom to the words.
