Why is my name coming up for- oh.
Ju did not make eye contact with anyone, whether she knew good drinking games or not she didn’t think this was the time or place for her talents. Even though she loved her culture and she was fine with showing people how to drink with gummy bears and enjoy themselves she didn’t want to bring that up here. Ju decidedly did not look up at her name, instead she found her lap extremely interesting and was glad for the blue jolly rancher in her mouth to keep things lubricated where they might have gone dry in another situation.
Crawford seemed to slip into mom mode with the tone of her voice. Even Ju had shivers run her spine as she lay out their disappointments. Ju was not in the drinking mood at the moment, but she might seek out a solid beverage when she was fully off shift. Maybe she could convince Mara to join her because she was pretty sure the two of them could make an intense night of ‘who drops first’. When Crawford asked if they could get their sh*t together, Ju nodded in affirmation, she had been pretty quiet overall but she understand why the Captain felt the need to address the entire room of insanity.
Before things could get going again, the door slid open once more. More surprises? This is getting to be a sick show of epic proportions, I would think this is some sort of variety show if I didn’t know better. This time however it was some sort of security officers, one was a Caitian and seemed to have an air about him which gave off an intense confidence and superiority. He acknowledged both the Captains in the room before continuing towards Damian and the people around him though they seemed closest to Damian. Pardoning the interruption he then turned to Damian and stated that he was under arrest.
Ju’s heart fell to her stomach, and she shifted in her seat as though she was about to get up. Not because she thought she could save him, not because she thought she could argue for his favor, but instead, because she was so surprised it was the only thing her body could react with. She was able to school herself though enough to stay in her seat but her body was right on the edge. She watched with surprise and horror in her eyes as his accusations were lain against him in front of his entire crew. This could have been done in private, now it’s just a spectacle…
Ju’s legs began to gather, she was going to stand, she didn’t know why but she felt like.. it was the only thing to do. She could stand or cry and she certainly didn’t want to do the latter. It wasn’t that she didn’t know some of the information, she did, she had told her things and confessed in her things. Ju could only count on Starfleet to do a solid thorough investigation to absolve him of the crimes he did not commit. Before Ju could stand, a strong warm hand clasped her shoulder keeping her in her seat but offering a strong support.
Ju knew that her eyes were wide with shock and surprise. She believed in Damian more than anyone else outside family. They were still working on their relationship and getting to know each other but she trusted him with her life and would stand beside him if needed. However, she could do nothing as they put the cuffs on him. Mara told her that Ju had been there for her and now she was paying it forward. Ju’s hand reached up and lay for a moment on top of Mara’s in a sign of appreciation of her friend’s calm demeanor. Mara promised nothing would happen to Ju while Damian was away.
This, and the kindness offered by her friend, made tears sting Ju’s eyes but she blinked them away. She would not cry. Damian met her eyes, and he gave her a soft look and a little quirk to his lips, she knew he was trying to disarm her worries and make it like it was no big deal. But, it was. Ju watched as the Captain turned to the interlopers and ask how they could just come on board and take her Commander without any forward knowledge or some sort of heads up.
Ju felt … almost numb. It was best to be numb at the moment because she was also very scared. Her boyfriend was under arrest, and not just being taken to the Brig where he could wait out the investigation he was being taken to Deep Space Nine. This was serious, if somehow was found guilty she might not ever see him again, this may be the last time she ever saw him, and her mind spiraled around that for a moment before she halted all emotion and just shut it off. It was best for now, she would deal with her emotions later in a much safer place and likely with some good drinks later. Again, her eyes went to Damian and she offered him a soft reassuring smile. She would be here when he came back, because he would come back, he had to come back, she believed that everything would work out in his favor and she would be in the docking bay as soon as he returned home from his journey.
“Be safe,” Ju did not say this outloud, she only mouthed it across the room to him, hoping he would gather the two words she said. He would have go with them, and he could be in danger, there were true murderers who had been arrested in the past that he would probably be housed with while awaiting his trial. The only thing she wanted for him in this moment was to be as safe as he could.
It was important that he came back.
Ju felt more than saw her new Chief scooting further away from her. She hoped it was not for her association with the accused but for another reason. Regardless, Ju was amazingly glad for Mara’s presence right now because she was keeping the young Korean grounded in such a hectic and harrowing time.
