There were, as anticipated, a myriad of reactions to K'mtarr's declaration. For most there, it was one of silent outrage, likely a belief that here, now, was no place for such an event. One coward among them even backed away from the arrest, as if the graying man didn't even want to be associated with the arrest.
The most interesting ones were from a young woman in engineering colors and another one in security. The latter moved around the table - the Caitian noticed sis subordinate track her but make no further moves towards their weapon with some pride at their training - and appeared to comfort the former, who appeared almost on the verge of tears. For a moment, K'mtarr wondered if there were some connection between them and the accused, but dismissed it. After all, they were the same crew; of course there were feelings involved, ones that he couldn't allow to interfere with his duties.
However, the captains in the room had the most intense reactions. Givens tossed the padd he had given her to the other one almost without reading it, cold fury radiating off of her. The second, Crawford, looked almost on the verge of a breakdown.
"Lieutenant Commander, did I miss the notification of your impending arrival? I understand the position you're in but I believe it's still standard procedure to inform a commanding officer before you board their vessel with the intent to arrest one of their officers. At minimum, it's bad manners, bordering on disrespectful, to board a vessel without permission but I suspect we're well past a case of bad manners, aren't we?
K'mtarr flicked his tail harder than intended, ears flicking in annoyance at her statement. "Apologies, Captain," he said smoothly, looking at her but keeping his eyes on Coleman, who had so seemed almost in shock, though he had failed to seem surprised at the charges themselves. "I was assured by those issuing the warrant that all protocol was being followed and I merely needed to come and make the arrest. Perhaps I should have questioned this, given those authorities were on Earth, but they seemed to be in some haste and brooked no debate. He debated for a moment the wisdom of further statements, but Coleman stood and ended any debate.
“It’s alright,” he said to them both, before cautiously turning to the Catian. “I understand all too well. Let’s get this over with.”
He signaled the other security officers, and they took formation around the accused and escorted him from the room. Once they were out, K'mtarr turned and gave his full attention to Captain Givens, with a momentary glance at Crawford. "Thank you for your cooperation, Captain," he said. "If you have any further issues, the padd you received contains the contact information for the prosecutor leading this case; I suggest you contact them. I'll let you resume your meeting." He gave a salute, and then stalked back out of the room, only turning to face the door at the last moment before he was gone.
