Beka honestly wished she could have fished the popcorn bowl back out of her pocket as the Security team entered. They clearly weren’t Artemis officers - the doctor hadn’t missed Calleja going for a weapon before thinking better of it - but it was quite the unexpected development to have them surround Coleman and arrest him for activities on the USS Atlanta.
That one rattled Sydesh. She’d had a heated exchange about the Atlanta with Coleman a couple of years ago, back when he was COS. He had staunchly defended his actions and ultimately she’d ended up backing down and apologising.
I guess Command didn’t agree with his version of events…
She frowned and looked away as he was taken out of the room and back to DS9, still not sure what to make of it. It wasn’t entirely a surprise when the briefing was dismissed shortly afterwards, as it had already proven fractious and now there was little chance of making meaningful progress with the First Officer having been led away.
As she got up, Beka tapped her commbadge.
“Sydesh to Kuik. Class dismissed, can you intercept our troubled pupil please?” she said.
[Understood, I’ll get on the way. Kuik out.]
On the way out of the door, the redhead was intercepted by Robin.
"Lt. Sydesh? Ensign Star? A word outside before you head off?" She smiled at Beka wearily. "And no, it's not about the popcorn."
The one drew a guilty smile from the doctor, and she joined the impromptu Medical huddle in the corridor as Robin addressed them.
"All right, you know how the rumor mill on this ship is, and Sickbay is the worst department in that regard. So please don't discuss Commander Coleman's arrest with anyone. You can confirm the arrest if anyone asks, and they probably will, but don't give any details beyond that. If they push you tell them to ask me so I can tell them to shut up, or to Commander Morgan so she can put it in less gentle terms."
The purple-haired medic paused.
"The Captain will decide how much to tell the crew and how to proceed." She sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose. "Lord knows what's going to happen next. All we can do is make sure our department is running smooth and not give the brass any excuses."
With that the nurse gave them both a wave. "I'm going to bed. See you both tomorrow morning. Assuming the ship doesn't explode or anything. 'Nite."
“Sleep well. I’ll go check in, and don’t worry. I’ll tell people to fuck off if they start pressing,” Beka replied.
She headed off to Sickbay. She had a couple of post-op check-ups to do before she went off shift, and apparently now some damage control.
Even if I’m not entirely sure where I sit on it all.
