Damian went willingly with the Caitian. There was something about protocol having been followed. Lucy doubted that protocol involved sufficient notification in the mind of whoever had orchestrated this gut punch to the crew. Captain Givens ended the meeting with instructions not to impede the departure of the arresting officer. Complicating matters further wasn’t on Lucy’s mind, then Aeryn spoke up.
“You’re with me, Lucy.”
Well, ****! A nice little epilogue to this *********** of a meeting. A small portion of that was my fault. Next time you think of something inadvisable, don’t bother.
Lucy’s options had been tend to the tomato plants, go hide in her quarters, or get blind drunk. The last option had the benefit of being cathartically self-destructive. Something with painstiks sounded a lot more fun than getting chewed out, again. Best thing would be to face yet another dressing down from a senior officer and get over any feeling that quitting would be the best option.
Lucy didn’t know why she hadn’t resigned her commission and gone back to Earth. She wasn’t a constructive part of the crew and she had been making just enough mistakes to feel like she needed to rethink her goals. She was tired of being part of the problem. She followed Aeryn out of the Briefing Room.
What exactly was the best way to process all that had transpired? New Captain, fine, she guessed. How it happened, not so fine. A mission on the edge of Cardassian space, technically necessary, but the timing sucked. Captain Crawford turning up, messy. Commander Coleman getting arrested for a cold case, not constructive.
